Title: Authenticated SMTP ports
Post by: Dangerjunkie on Sep 10, 2009, 08:13:38
Hi,

I'm just going to start trialling mobile broadband (got a free stick from www.3dongle4free.co.uk ) . IDNet authenticated SMTP works fine with work's Vodafone sticks but I understand Three have just started blocking outgoing port 25. I really don't want to mess about changing server settings when I plug my dongle in (that's the beauty of authenticated SMTP :) ) Is there another port I can use to bypass the Three block so one setting works from everywhere please?

Thanks,
Paul.

Don't know  ;D  I suppose support will, the other default ports are 465 and 587 I think

Steve's right, Paul, use 587 for IDNet. :)

Yes only as its the port the spammers use, but if the problem doesn't arise you wouldn't need to. I presume its applicable for large ISP

No idea, tbh.

When I signed up IDNet made a big thing that they didn't block or throttle anything (one of their differentiating features)

I wouldn't object to this being blocked per se as long as I could unblock it without pain on my control panel or by making a 2 minute phone call.

Cheers,
Paul.
