Title: The red router light of doom
Post by: cwmusson on Sep 09, 2009, 00:35:10
Has anyone else lost adsl connection at exactly midnight tonight?  It's still off so sending this from a mobile phone. I'm aware of the notice about issues in London but I'm not in London

Exactly midnight would seem to be suspiciously like an intervention start time.

The router says "CHAP authentication failed"

Annoyingly, O2 pay as you go 3G is aso not working. "This site is temporarily unavailable, please try again later" on the payment page.

Have you lost sync, or is it just the PPP session? Either way, it sounds like it could be BT engineering work. :(

Just PPP.  I guess that they could be engineering and also taken out the O2 connection from the phone mast as well.

Hopefully it will be back by morning  :fingers:

If it went off dead on midnight then I'm sure Sebby is right, it's BT carrying out engineering work without bothering to notify anybody first. It's happened to me and others quite frequently recently. I guess they don't realise the world operates on a 24 hour time scale these days  ::) Chances are you'll be back online now.

According to the connection uptime it looks like it reconnected at 4.25am. You would have thought they might have the courtesy to provide advanced notification for work taking more than 4 hours.
