Since the ups and downs of switching to ADSL2+, the IP on my line has either been 2500Kbps some of the time, but more recently, 3000Kbps.
Since Friday and without phoning support, this has now been increased to 3500Kbps
These are the results from a BT Speed Test this morning:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 3202 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :
4219 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
863 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 3500 Kbps
(my connection rate has always been around the 3700Kbps before Friday)
My Netgear DG834v4 router has the following stats:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4219 kbps 863 kbps
Line Attenuation 50.0 db 29.4 db
Noise Margin 9.0 db 5.3 db
(the Noise margin I think has come down from 12db downstream)
Is this just a blip or can I expect to continue with these speed in the future as I thought the IP was sorted over the first 10 days, I've now been with ADSL2+ for 3 months?
Your profile changes continuously, in line with your sync speed (though it goes down immediately but up after anything up to five days). Nothing is fixed with Max or WBC, except the fault threshold rate, which is set at 70% of the maximum stable rate achieved during the first 10 days - and even that can change if BT want it to!
It may be that BT have done some work on cables or at the exchange which has improved the noise level on your line, leading to a faster sync. I note your d/s noise margin is 9db, reduced from 12db, that would add about 5-700k to your sync speed. When a noise margin is reduced automatically, it indicates the line has been stable for at least two weeks. The noise margin would have been increased, from the default target of 6db, in response to instability.
faster is goooooooooooooooooooooood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :dunno: or have i woken up in the days of 56k
oh well back to :dig: through danni's computer though this may stop me :wall:

Hey, some people like it slower. Never know, could work for them ;)
like in bed though thats about how fast my wiresless network runs from there
Back on the topic, what Rik said is spot on. As usual ;)
i think we should go for a unusual topic and blame this on BT
I say blame Virgin. They get blamed for everything else!
but blaming BT for something they have done right could be deemed a good thing :dunno: though they do that few i think it may be possible to count them on 1 hand. so who wants to get together and by the something nice as a momento
I go to bed for a couple of hours and I come down to you to taking over a thread. *shakes head*
I hope your speed continues to increase, bridgej :)
I'll raise my glass to that. :)x
hope the new speed is just as stable....
ill just continue to spam the thread to that danni
but seriously who wants to buy BT a nice hat
hahahaha i think im tired
damn i said somthing senisible :sry:

Still a good steady connection - as per BT Speed tester which is now working again:
3213 Kbps For your connection,
Your DSL Connection Rate :4215 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 856 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 3500 Kbps
My Netgear DG834 has these stats:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4215 kbps 856 kbps
Line Attenuation 50.0 db 29.4 db
Noise Margin 8.6 db 7.5 db
I have checked various speed checker websites and it is suggested on one that I could expect to see speeds of up to 6MB. Is this a reality? I can't remeber which site said that now. Other sites say 2MB, another 3.0MB, who do I believe?
Would the BT iplate make any difference or is just a £7.99 + P&P wasted?
BTW I'm in no way complaining, but just greedy.
Before the switch to ADSL2+ I was quoted an increase in speed from 2.4MB to about 2.8MB, getting 3.3 or 3.4 is an absolute bonus
6Mb doesn't seem likely on that line, tbh, 3.5-4.5 would be more likely, the latter if you can get your target noise margin down.
The iPlate might make a difference but, tbh, it's a lot cheaper and just as easy to remove the ring wire at each socket.

You might find that you have more to come. My target margin has reduced from 9db to 6db and then to 3db over the past week, so it looks like the old Max rule book has gone out of the window and we are all on a new learning curve now. I've had a 4M profile for the past five days (also happening faster than under Max), so I've gained a full meg from WBC.
Update:
I've noticed that my router is now connecting at around the 5000kbps mark, 1000kbps higher than the previous regular connection
BT Speed Test gave me these results:
Download speed achieved during the test was - 3218 Kbps
Your DSL Connection Rate :
5067 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM),
873 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 3500 Kbps (the same as before)
My router stats have also changed with the noise margin a lot lower, (it was previously around the 10db mark):
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5067 kbps 873 kbps
Line Attenuation 49.5 db 29.0 db
Noise Margin 5.2 db 5.6 db
My question is this, with these improved figures, why hasn't the IP of my line been increased?
It takes up to five days to catch up. :(
It's getting better:
Download speed achieved during the test was - 3682 Kbps
Your DSL Connection Rate :
5174 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM),
867 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 4000 Kbps
:thumb: :fingers:
You're getting there, but your profile should be 4.5M, which suggests some ongoing line instability.
I always turn my router off when I'm not at home, I don't like leaving things on (blame my mother for that!), especially as the router always seems to be warm.
Would this affect my connect stats?
It shouldn't. Don't switch off more than 10 times an hour. That said, routers are designed to be run 24/7 and are more likely to fail through frequent power cycling.
Fair enough, I'll continue switching off when I go out, once a day usually - if the router fails, then £50 for a new router is far better than claiming on the insurance for a burnt out house :)
:)
Remember that if you reconnect at night, you will get slower speeds than doing so in the morning.
My connection rate just keep on increasing, here are the lastest stats:
BT Line Test:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 3691 Kbps
Your DSL Connection Rate :5725 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 825 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 4000 Kbps
My router stats:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5725 kbps 826 kbps
Line Attenuation 49.5 db 29.0 db
Noise Margin 2.2 db 6.6 db
I'm guessing that I'm approaching the maximum possible connection speed now?? I'm about 1.5-2km from the exchange, Stratford in east London.
I'm guessing that was an early morning re-sync? Your NM has dropped to 2.2db, and it may not survive the night at that level.
