The Broadband Performance Tester allows you to test the performance of your Broadband connection.
To use the Performance Tester, Java must be installed and enabled on your PC and Browser. If you are unable to see a message at the top of your screen that says "PERFORMANCE TESTER Your Details will be verified after clicking the GO button" then please go to FAQ section to troubleshoot.

I note that it doesn't say it's supported on OSX although Safari is supported on Windows.
They now have the get out clause: "For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 400-2000 Kbps" IOW a sufficiently wide range to allow them to dismiss any complaint apart from total failure, although some would regard 400 Kbps as being much the same.
Mine does throw up some interesting stuff:

That sort of speed/profile ratio, is what I would expect from iDNet. The figures I'm currently getting are far worse than they were when I was with Demon. Last test I did with Demon gave a download speed of 1359 on a profile of 1500 and I would expect similar with iDNet.

Your profile is low for your sync speed, Tac, so there's been a low-sync event somewhere. Repeat the test over the weekend then drop support an email with the results if it hasn't improved by Monday.

No, it's weird isn't it - and why would they think I could ever hit 7150?
What they are saying is that on an 'up to 8Mb service' it isn't until the speed falls below about 7.5% of the maximum speed, that they will regard it as a fault. So less than 10% of the advertised speed is perfectly OK.
And, they can, quite legally get away with it. Amazing. :shake:
Isn't it. And Ofcom believe they are fit not only to oversee the day-to-day operation, but also to direct investment. :shake:

Tac, I am assuming Mac OS X, which version and which browser? I ask as I can't seem to see a result with 10.6.0 and Safari but I rarely have the patience to see it through to the bitter end
Edit: I did finally manage it with 10.6.0 and Safari I won't depress you by posting the result but it was around 6500Kbps ;D
