Title: changing cordless phones
Post by: coreservers on Aug 23, 2009, 13:56:13
We have a couple of binatone cordless phones E3300, which we've had for years and years. they dont affect the broadband connection at all., but we were thinknig of changing them, but I've heard that some of the newer binatone phones can casue the router to re-sync and drop the speed everytime they are used.

can anyone enlighten me, before I give myself connection issues :-\

Any DECT phone can give problems, Core. Personally, I've always had good results from Panasonic units.

I also have two Panasonic DECT phones, and they are the best quality of the ones I have tried.  I would avoid BT ones, as I had one and it was awful.

Another vote for Panasonic here, and agree that BT-branded sets tend to be awful.

We're pretty strong on Panasonic as a brand generally, aren't we.

I have a set of Siemens Gigaset DECT phones. The base unit sits on my desk next to my broadband router. No problem at all.

I don't want this to be construed as advertising but I got them from here:-

Factory refurbished but appear brand new and are the best DECT phones I have had over the years. Just about to order another pair for my place in Spain.

Edit: You can buy them as single units as well without an answerphone. Agree that BT models are poor.

I think they're pretty hard to beat for most appliances. Their stuff is real quality.

I agree, Seb. Certainly the best breadmaker on the market (see, I got food in with no trouble ;D)).

 :thnks: Rik.

I've dealt with them before. Had a faulty BT DECT handset once. They just sent me a new one and didn't even want the old one back.

We've two Samsung dect phones, one at the side of the pc and the other in another room at the side of a BT answer machine, had them for 8 or 10 years with no problems at all, also a Sky box connected. Did have a Bineatone corded phone before these until a lightening strike took it out along with the pc's modem. Needless to say everything now goes thru' a surge protector and have been lucky so far.  :fingers:

Better yet to disconnect when there's lightning about, Brian, it can do serious damage.

We use Panasonic here as well a Panasonic KX-TG8321 with an extra handset, works wonderfully and very good battery life and well built, we did try a Siemens out but was not at the time impressed with the build quality on the model we chose, could have been a one off issue, but our last two phones stretching 6 years have been Panasonic.

I'm working on it. ;D

I just got a call from DR, inviting me up for a tour on September 8, but there's no way I'm driving that far just for a tour. :)

Almost certainly, but as I have an open invitation to phone and turn up, I'll probably go that route. :)
