Title: Is There Any Benefit in Changing IP Address Periodically?
Post by: MO on Aug 15, 2009, 15:47:30
Just a question I'm asking because I was told by our techy guy at work, that changing your IP address about once or twice a year is advisable for security reasons. Is this an old wives tale?

I've been with IDNet with the same IP address for 3 years now and haven't had any problems so far.

Any advice appreciated, thank you.

I don't think it's an issue for most, Martin. Obviously with a fixed IP we are more easily identifiable, but it's very unlikely that day-to-day users would be targeted particularly. As long as you have up-to-date antivirus and a firewall (or NAT) in place, I would say it's nothing to be concerned about. :)

What Seb said, Martin, I've had a lot less probes with my static IPA than I used to when I had dynamic ones.
