Title: Will my PC support a 1920x1200 monitor?

I want to buy a 1920x1200 monitor but am unsure if my PC will support that resolution. How do I find out?

Currently, the only display options listed are sizes up to a maximum of 1280x1024, which is what I have my current 17" monitor set at. Would a new larger monitor need new drivers, and once installed would display options reflect the newly available sizes, or is it more complicated than this?

System info:
Windows XP
ATI Radeon X1300/X1550 series graphics card.

AMD 2800 with a 128mb nvidia  =  :thumb:

Celeron with onboard Intel  =   :thumb:

P3 550mhz with 128mb nvidia  =   :thumb:

All running through a KVM switch @ 1920 x 1200 no problems. I think the card software will only report what the monitor can handle. If i put on a lower res monitor my options become limited.

The maximum supported resolution will probably be either 2560x1600 or 2048x1536, but your graphics card will struggle (performance wise) in 3D games at that resolution though. The monitor will tell the graphics card its native/maximum resolution via a EDID "handshake" procedure.

Thank you. I don't game, and don't need 3D, so presumably it will be fine for 2D images, video and web pages?
