A friend who is also on IDNet has had their profile dropped to 135. They have very poor internal wiring, so I'm guessing this is the cause, but one interesting oddity is that about once a day, they lose their internet connection, and have to dial 1471 on the connected phone to get it back. This was also happening with their old ISP, so it's nothing to do with IDNet. Any ideas on this?
I have been up and tried to tidy up the wiring (it currently runs off an extension lead, but I'm trying to convince them to go wireless), and reconnected everything - will the profile automatically rectify if the connection stays quiet, or could IDNet get BT to reset them?
Sounds like there's a faulty joint, probably on the BT side, Simon. Is there a test socket you can use to eliminate their own wiring?
I wouldn't expect BT to do a manual profile reset if there are any errors on the line, and from the sound of it, there will be.
I doubt it, Rik, it's a very old house, with ancient wiring.
You're up against it, then, assuming they aren't prepared to spend money on a BT visit. :(
I regret moving them to IDNet, as actually, they were better off with Pipex as far as cost goes. With one child watching CBeebies online, and another couple home from Uni using iPlayer to death, they are going well over the Home Max allowance every month, whereas, when they were on Pipex, the connection might have been slower (aside from current issues), but at least they were uncapped. I don't think I could convince them to go onto SuperMax, as the usage will drop once the schools go back.
The guy reckons he knows someone who can look at the wiring, and hopefully can judge fairly accurately whether the problem is BT side, in which case, it would be fairly safe to get them out.
