Title: Personal ping issue.
Post by: mynnydd on Aug 03, 2009, 22:44:11
Apart from the recent 'high pings issue', my ping is always 104ms on speedtest.
So I have done a netbook ping and got...

So therefore I have always had an issue and this is nothing new.
So, any suggestions on what I can try before pestering 'the helpline'.
Thanks in advance.

The speedtest ping rating is not reliable.  I would suggest that you have the same issue as everyone else, and should follow the diagnostics in the sticky (http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=15454.0), and forward them to IDNet.  But, of course, I could be wrong.  :)

Speedtest.net ping is not to be trusted as it's very inaccurate. However, the ping to idnet.net is high, and if it's always been like this, you need to let IDNet know.

As an AMIN, could you delete this thread.
As I am now pinging from windows and all seems good.
I do not wish to have a moaning thread up for no reason.

I think it's relevant that you had an ongoing issue for 16 months, and now don't, if you're saying all seems good.  :)  What did you do to rectify it?

I was basing my 16 months of 104ms ping on the results of speedtest.
But now I am windows pinging I got one 93ish ping and 6 between 30ms and 40ms.
So I do not feel this thread is required.

It's no bad thing to leave it Mynnydd as it servers to prove our assertion that direct pinging is the only reliable method. ;)
