Title: Number port and sim provide
Post by: spr00t on Jul 22, 2009, 21:43:43
Hi,

Is anyone familiar with the 'simultaneous provide' process? I'm moving in a couple of weeks and I'd like to have my bb up and running when I arrive. Problem is, idnet have stated that sim provide is not available when porting an existing number (I'm not moving far, so I'm taking my number with me)

I called BT to cancel my cease + reprovide order for the phone, so I could re-order without the number port, so I could have sim provide (still with me?  ;D ) BT said it wasn't necessary since sim provide worked with number ports, and offered to set me up with BT bb if idnet couldn't.

I've searched but I can only find BT Openreach tech docs that suggest it should be possible, but they're so full of unfamiliar (to me) TLAs that they could be saying anything. Newnet's 'home move' page implies that it works with number ports, but they're an LLU ISP not a BT reseller.

Anyone done this? I really don't want to leave idnet, but I can't afford a week without bb.

TIA
Steve

I don't have any experience with it Steve, I think Rik maybe able to shed some light on it in the morning, or maybe someone else has been through the process.

:welc: :karma:

I can't answer your question - it might be worth giving IDNet a call as they will definitely know the answer. :)

Hi and welcome to the forum. :welc: :karma:

Unfortunately, what you've been told is true. If you move your number, BT's system sees a BB service on it, even though it isn't physically there. (Clever work, BT!!) To put BB back on, first it has to be ceased, thus allowing BT to charge for re-connecting it. :(

and just wait and see if they find a fault on the exchange!

Thanks all,

I already spoke to idnet; they told me it wouldn't work, but BT had contradicted them.
I could probably have guessed who'd be right  ::)

Looks like I'll be getting a new phone number then, and bb the same day  :fingers:

Cheers
Steve

Glad you're sorted, Steve. I've had a sim-provide on a new line & number recently - it went off very smoothly.
