Title: Seagate Hard Drive Warning
Post by: zappaDPJ on Jul 21, 2009, 20:51:49
I have PC here that has a failed Seagate drive from which I'm attempting to recover data. I didn't think much of it until I was browsing a forum I run and saw two of my members have both had the same problem within the last month. A quick google found this: http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1050374/seagate-barracudas-7200-11-failing

The story is now a few months old but nevertheless it seems like these particular drives are on a slow fuse to oblivion.

Apologies if this has been posted before, I do recall a thread regarding failing hard drives but I can't locate it.

Thanks Ray, I knew I'd read something a little while ago  :)

I'm pretty sold on Samsung as well these days.

And also why I usually buy Hitachi. Not the fastest - but rock solid.

Western Digital fan here (the Caviar Black), got 3 of em in RAID 5. Fast, quiet and come with a 5 year warranty

Yep, WD are my current favourite too, though you do hear mixed things about them as well these days.

I've got a WD MyBook for backup and a WD Caviar Blue in my iMac, so hopefully they will prove to be reliable!
