I have just recieved the domain name I need for my new Email which I have got registered and the name is safe for the next two years by which time I may have mastered it ;D
Couldnt set up the Email until the domain name was registered so here comes the fun bit
Just bear in mind that a new domain may take as long as 72 hours to replicate, so it may be that long before you can send and receive emails using an address @yourdomain. :bore:
:thnks: lodge this is all new to me,up to now I have always enjoyed the isp providing my EMail so this will be an experience :fingers:
I set up a new domain and email on Friday, David, and it was just over 24 hours before I could set up any mail boxes. :)
Thanks Ray looks a little complicated but I will give it a go ;D I actually set it up a few days ago and just recieved the Email which this is the first line of
Thank you for choosing to register a .uk domain name. We are sending you this email to confirm that you now have a new account with us.
Is this the same as yours ?
The Email address I have but cant tie them together at the moment (have to read it all again) ;D
That sounds a bit different to mine, David, who did you use? I registered mine through 1&1.
It gets easier :) - congratulations on having a unique identity on the net :thumb:
To be honest Ray Im a tad confused at the moment I ordered or bought the Email through 1&1 reading this showed that I also needed a domain name which I ordered and paid for and I have now got both.
So I have just created Email with my address davidxxx@,then a get a lot of digits and a couple of letters
When I try and add the domain name name which has come from nominet.org it states that a transfer fee is applicable :dunno:
After creating the Email it stated it will willll take about 5 minutes...but I did not put in the domain name which is confusing for me

Thanks Dan...Im nearly there ??? ;D if nothing else Im having fun ;D
Shout if you get really stuck - I manage a couple of 1&1 domains with multiple email addresses, though I'm sure you'll find it easy once you work it out.
Steve
Thanks Dan just watching the set up video again and its looking easier but I will yell if I need help :thumb: :thnks:
I'm confused, David, have you received your email from 1&1 with your account number on and giving details of how to log in to your 1&1 control panel? I haven't seen anything about a transfer, fee I just registered the domain and paid the registration fees for it, and ordered their 5 mail box email package at 0.69 + vat per month. Everything was set up and useable within just over 24 hours.
If he's bought a domain too, he may need to link them first. It isn't difficult - but does add an extra step.
Steve
Yes got all that Ray a few days ago but at the time I did not order a domain name ......which I have done since from the same site.
So here is the situation
When I go onto my control panel I see this E-mail address david244@s2921x1107.websitehome.co.uk
I have recieved a domain name as well and when I try to add this in the control panel it states this name is not available !! well no I have it :dunno:
I can add this domain name or transfer it for a small fee £2.99 which is fine but is it correct ?if so the rest looks easy enough just to set up my outlook Express to recieve mail
Sounds like you need to do as Steve says, David, I ordered mine at the same time and it was already linked together.
OK - it's late now - but if you want to talk to me off list tomorrow - I'm happy to help.
If you want to work it out - go to control panel - and you are looking for "Manage Domains", and then destination - make sure it points to your root destination and you are on your way.
Steve
Edit: If your new domain doesn't show - go to new - then add domain first
Thanks Steve will do,my speed is really slow tonight pages taking ages to load ...will do thanks again
David, I sent you a PM. It sounds like you've setup an email address using the free domain that 1&1 give you, not the domain you bought.
Yes I have Sebby didnt know they did this...no pm yet ???
The built in domains have awful TLDs :)
Sent again, David. :)
Recieved with thanks ;D
Well in true David fashion I messed that up and in the end decided on transfering thte name to my domain...........recieved the instructions from 1&1 and cant find in the control panel the "Edit" button they refer to .
All I need to do is accept or agree to the transfer but do you think I can find it ??? once I have doe this it is fairly simple....
I could have avoided this by ordering the Email and Domain name at the same time
Tomorrow will be fun :out: :back:
Dear Dr Rik please send me a repeat of the blue ones please
If you call their support, David, they have the ability to take control of, or view, your machine and will talk you through the process by literally pointing you in the right direction.
Yes I will give them a call :thnks:............when its beaten me ;)

I think it already has :out:
 oh no it hasnt..................................yet ;D
If I'm on the same page - login to control panel and click the "domains" tab. When the page loads, put a checkmark by the domain you want to link, and click the "Destination" tab. You'll find the edit button there.
Steve
Thanks Steve thats where I am and it it wont show an edit button
did you put the checkmark in - if you don't, you get a different page?
Steve
Yes Steve checked the box but nothing....had support on and they are a bit stuffed as well... :dunno:
This may be stating the obvious, but:
i. are you looking in the right place? (see grab)
ii. have you tried a different browser in case it's a rendering problem?
Steve

You're still here, David? ???
Yes its down for tomorrow now ???
:bore:
I know but thats BT for you
Glad you got there in the end :thumb:
Maybe.
Odd I have just seen they have taken another £42 out of my account ?
Who, David?
1&1 ???
You'd better ask them what's going on, unless you've subscribed to more than email, I don't see how they could have got to that sort of price.
Just Emailed them I only have the Email and that was paid for ???
I thought you paid for the Email then that was it for 2 years !!! and the price was nowhere near this amount :shake:
I pay for the domain every couple of years and the email each year, David.
I'm wondering if I have more than just Email.. :dunno:
Awaiting a reply
I wonder if you signed up for a hosting package? I can't see anything which quite fits a £42 bill, though.
I don't even know what a hosting package is Rik,all I recall saying at the time it was so cheap with also the first month free,I think it was silly money something like £6.99 a year or something but would not have signed to spend this amount and I am perplexed just in case it might be a regular DD so I have asked for details.I have not received an acknowledgement which is odd ?
Email, iirc, is 69p/month, certainly something of that order. Maybe you elected to pay for three years in advance?

I guess thats possible and dont mind and I trust the company so not too worried I just need to know but I did pay at the time and cant understand what this money is for
You can check if there's a direct debit if you use online services with your bank, David. :)
I have Simon it appears I did sign for a Hosting !! but didnt realise it ,I hav'nt a clue what this is,all I know its something to do with websites :dunno: so I have sent them this buying error and see what happens .
Or I could have a website I guess ;D :hehe:
Sorry made myself giggle ;D
Hosting is, like you say, what you need for a website, enabling other people to see it. Sounds like you've managed to sign up for the complete package. :)
 So I had better get designing Simon ;D
That could be fun! :out: ;D
:hehe: :lmao:
I've just renewed my account with 1&1 for £6.88 for 2 years, with 4 free email addresses.
But your names not David Glenn...... ;D I am the Frank Spencer of the web ;D
Ooh, Betty. ;D
Note to self.........dont press buttons ;D actually I could do with a website wonder how much more it would cost ?
Presumably, you've already paid for it, you just need to design it?
As you've paid in advance can't they just issue a refund minus the cost of the first month?
They have not refused this yet it is clear it was done in error so will look into this later today..if they cant or wont then I will design a basic page for my very modest little business...depending on how much more it will cost....if I am paying for something..I might as well play around with it..
It shouldn't cost any more, David, all the authoring tools are included in the package, iirc.
I wondered why I had such a lot of tools on my page there are loads ;D
;D
 :pmsl: :hehe:
Just heard from 1&1 I can downgrade the package but I have to do it within 5 days of the Email ;D I was playing around with the sitebuilder last night as well ;D
I will downgrade but they did say be careful to click on the correct package as it cannot be changed for 30 days afterwards :eek4:
Make sure you put your glasses on then, David. :)
:hehe: :whome:
