Post by: David on Jul 19, 2009, 21:15:02

Just bear in mind that a new domain may take as long as 72 hours to replicate, so it may be that long before you can send and receive emails using an address @yourdomain. :bore:

Thank you for choosing to register a .uk domain name.  We are sending you this email to confirm that you now have a new account with us.

To be honest Ray Im a tad confused at the moment I ordered or bought the Email through 1&1 reading this showed that I also needed a domain name which I ordered and paid for and I have now got both.

So I have just created Email with my address davidxxx@,then a get a lot of digits and a couple of letters

When I try and add the domain name name which has come from nominet.org it states that a transfer fee is applicable  :dunno:

After creating the Email it stated it will willll take about 5 minutes...but I did not put in the domain name which is confusing for me

Shout if you get really stuck - I manage a couple of 1&1 domains with multiple email addresses, though I'm sure you'll find it easy once you work it out.

I'm confused, David, have you received your email from 1&1 with your account number on and giving details of how to log in to your 1&1 control panel? I haven't seen anything about a transfer, fee I just registered the domain and paid the registration fees for it, and ordered their 5 mail box email package at 0.69 + vat per month. Everything was set up and useable within just over 24 hours.

If he's bought a domain too, he may need to link them first. It isn't difficult - but does add an extra step.

Yes got all that Ray a few days ago but at the time I did not order a domain name ......which I have done since from the same site.

So here is the situation

When I go onto my control panel I see this E-mail address   david244@s2921x1107.websitehome.co.uk

I have recieved a domain name as well and when I try to add this in the control panel it states this name is not available !! well no I have it  :dunno:

I can add this domain name or transfer it for a small fee £2.99 which is fine but is it correct ?if so the rest looks easy enough just to set up my outlook Express to recieve mail

Sounds like you need to do as Steve says, David, I ordered mine at the same time and it was already linked together.

OK - it's late now - but if you want to talk to me off list tomorrow - I'm happy to help.

If you want to work it out - go to control panel - and you are looking for "Manage Domains", and then destination - make sure it points to your root destination and you are on your way.

Steve

Edit: If your new domain doesn't show - go to new - then add domain first

Well in true David  fashion I messed that up and in the end decided on transfering thte name to my domain...........recieved the instructions from 1&1 and cant find in the control panel the "Edit" button they refer to .
All I need to do is accept or agree to the transfer but do you think I can find it  ??? once I have doe this it is fairly simple....

I could have avoided this by ordering the Email and Domain name at the same time

Tomorrow will be fun  :out: :back:

Dear Dr Rik please send me a repeat of the blue ones please

If I'm on the same page - login to control panel and click the "domains" tab. When the page loads, put a checkmark by the domain you want to link, and click the "Destination" tab. You'll find the edit button there.

This may be stating the obvious, but:

i. are you looking in the right place? (see grab)
ii. have you tried a different browser in case it's a rendering problem?

You'd better ask them what's going on, unless you've subscribed to more than email, I don't see how they could have got to that sort of price.

I wonder if you signed up for a hosting package? I can't see anything which quite fits a £42 bill, though.

Post by: David on Aug 04, 2009, 17:10:29
I don't even know what a hosting package is Rik,all I recall saying at the time it was so cheap with also the first month free,I think it was silly money something like £6.99 a year or something but would not have signed to spend this amount and I am perplexed just in case it might be a regular DD so I have asked for details.I have not received an acknowledgement which is odd ?

Email, iirc, is 69p/month, certainly something of that order. Maybe you elected to pay for three years in advance?

They have not refused this yet it is clear it was done in error so will look into this later today..if they cant or wont then I will design a basic page for my very modest little business...depending on how much more it will cost....if I am paying for something..I might as well play around with it..
