The Karma system has been taken off as it was  too easy to abuse, people were losing points for no apparent reason and it was decided it now serves no purpose.
All new members will now get a PM from Adam welcoming them to the forums, you will see the new members names at the bottom of the screen as they have always been but not the top.

I thought it was just a bit of fun Max, I mean the Karma didn't actually have any real monetary value, so it was no great loss or gain to win or lose points.

It might have been nice to ask the members their views before removing it.

Obviously someone must have got a bit sensitive about it.. oh well.

I have always thought it was just a bit of fun (remember i couldn't use it as Ive explained before)  but others obviously took it more seriously and liked getting the points for helping people e.t.c.

I was aware of the discussion Adam had with a couple of users over this but i had nothing to do with the decision to remove it,having said that if users here  are annoyed to see points they have worked hard for disappear for no apparent reason then i agree with Adams decision.

The purpose of the karma system was to award and highlight members that made significant contributions to the forum community. By abusing the karma system it effectively makes it worthless as it no longer serves its purpose. Now I'm not saying anyone has or hasn't abused the karma system, the capability is there, which I feel is enough to warrant its removal.

However, it can easily be restored without any data loss at any time should the community decide the karma system is after all worthwhile.

As for the other points; new forum members will receive an automated PM from the forum software in order to encourage posting and the new member notification in the news bar was a manual process which was not manageable or really needed.

Oh No!  Me Karmas have gorn!!

But I'd bought me sun cream and sun hat and was practising the chorus of "Oh, we're going to Barbados!".

This must be cos Adam hadn't got as many as other people so he's taken his bat home.

On a slightly more serious note (?) the problem with Karmas is they were anonymous, so it was easy for mischief-makers.  From what I saw, more were given/taken away for trivial reasons than serious ones anyway, so it's not something to get upset about.  Oh well.

I'm just pleased that the newest member has gone from the top of the page! Not overly bothered about the Karma system.

That's only because you're jealous that I'd nearly qualified for a trip to Barbados with mine  ;D

It reflects todays society really...people get "het up" for no particular reason, "oooh look, my karmas gone down" ::) ::) ::) ::)
(technical term: Wingers!, especially since the karma system didnt really mean/do anything!)
