Title: ADSL Max Business Packages?
Post by: Danni on Jul 12, 2009, 14:11:08
Since Johan is staying with me at the moment, we've discovered that my Supermax package isn't big enough with the rate we're installing Linux distributions (yes, 60GB isn't enough with two computers on alpha operating systems which keep breaking). As he may be moving in, we'll need a bigger package.

I was going to look at the business packages, but I can only find the ADSL2+ ones. My exchange isn't enabled yet (and I have no date) so I can't find out how much it will cost. Do they still exist, or do IDNet only do business broadband for those on ADSL2+ enabled exchanges now?

Danni, from what I can see http://www.idnet.net/solutions/business/broadband/ it's 'up to 24mb', so with your exchange not enabled for ADSL2+, I would think that you can get it at 8mb.

It does seem to be based on whatever kind of line you have determining speed, Danni. Against the 'up to' there is this note:

*Please note:

The maximum speeds that your line can support are evaluated by the equipment at the exchange within the first 10 days of service.

Speeds are affected by your proximity to your local telephone exchange and the quality of your phone line.

Okay, thank you :)

Since the prices have gone up by quite a bit since I last looked (about a year ago, admittedly), it will probably be cheaper to get a second line, and maybe go with O2 or Be for a faster "unlimited" connection. I want to keep the IDNet connection for latency to game servers and reliability though :)

Danni, only go with O2 if your exchange is LLU enabled for their service, otherwise you could see dire speeds

That might be a good solution, Danni, though get the line installed by the Post Office or IDNet as they are cheaper.

My exchange is enabled with Be, so that's fine. I was thinking of just finding the cheapest provider for the line as there won't even be a phone attached to it (unless it stops working).

Maybe you should order a T1 from the sound of it. ;D

If you organize your downloads so duplicates are avoided I think any extra is £1 per Gb
