I've not had much joy since I signed up a couple of weeks or so ago. I was put directly onto WBC. I mentioned my slow speed on the WBC connections thread initially and as a result ended up having a BT engineer out for voice intermittent crosstalk. He said he can't see a problem with the line quality and "it's as clear as a bell", and replaced the master socket. Obviously if the problem is intermittent, I can't make it go wrong while he's there :-/
My modem says it's been up for over 8 hours but the net wouldn't respond.
The stats say:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1674 kbps 978 kbps
Line Attenuation 45.5 db 26.5 db
Noise Margin 10.1 db 6.5 db
I reboot the modem, it synced again (slower), but still no connection to web pages. It then dropped by itself immediately after the manual reboot. Synced at an even slower speed and still didnt work. Then it dropped again within about a minute from the last time, and seems to be working but slowly.
I'm sure there must be a line fault but as it's intermittent it's very difficult to get anything done about it.
It seems to be happening daily.
Does anyone think there's anything left for me to do other than accept slow speed and daily drop outs?
I don't really know what I'm talking about, but your noise margin and attenuation doesn't seem too bad. Have you tried another router?
I agree Simon.I think I want to be back on plain old adsl.
It does seem to have its ups and downs, Steve. :(
I'm experiencing something similar. I have times when despite a decent sync, the web just stops dead and the only cure is a router reboot. Even more annoyingly is that after some promising initial starts, my sync is now back to a lower level than pre WBC and my bRAS has dropped half a Meg. Noise is lower, indicating a less stable connection. I'm really starting to consider reverting to ADSL Max.
Steve
The web browsing issue might be something separate, but the stats are terrible for the attenuation. The sync is about 5 times lower than it should be. Have you asked IDNet to test the line? It might be worthwhile.
For the slowness issue, it's worth following this (http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=14931.0) thread. :)
Hi Simon. Yeah I've tried replacement routers the lot.
Sebby, I've asked about the slowness before and couldn't get anywhere unfortunately. I've asked support again yesterday related to the "drop outs".
Thanks.
