Title: 2wire 2701hgv-w
Post by: azzajonesy on Jul 01, 2009, 07:19:04
greetings from NZ

i have one of the above routers and am wondering if anyone can help, it is running a NZ version of a 6.xx firmware that wont let me change realms (isp) in the setup page.

i have a request for a bt or other branded 6.xx firmware as i cant go back to 5.xx and i would like to be able to use this router with my isp.

the hardware id is 4201-029000-000
sn is 360819094909

i assume this is single ssid version as telecom NZ doesnt use external sharing (open hub??) or anything along those lines.

i am more than happy to be a guinea pig here and more than happy to send all info requested for your use on this site if needed.

thanks in advance

Aaron from NZ

:welc: :karma: Aaron, I'm sure Kinmel (Alan) will be along in due course to advise you on what can be done with the router, but as far as I'm aware, you can't 'downgrade' from v6, checkout this thread http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=12429.0

Hi Aaron :welc:

The definitive guide to using the 2700HGV is found at Tripod's (http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com/ir1002700HGV.htm) web page, the owner constantly updates the information from numerous sources.

It takes a bit of studying to find the data relevant to your own router, but start HERE (http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com/ir1002700HGV.htm#New%20BT%20firmware%20v6.1.1.48) and the V6 set-up for any ISP is this Set up GUIDE (http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com/ir1002700HGVbtV6setup.htm).

Feel free to ask any questions here and whatever PLEASE let us know how it all goes, your experience will be added to our database and Tripod's too.

Good luck

Thanks Glenn and Alan.

I have also been in touch with the dude from the tripod site and have sent him some screenshots, this is in the hope that we can help some other poor sods out here in nz with the same problem of being locked into an isp they don't want to be with.

I have been on the site mentioned above today and gone through everything, unfortunately the manual entering of the ppp user/pass comes back with a invalid ppp username screen (similar to when i attempt to put in into the setup screen).

It's a shame you cant dump the firmware and i wonder if 2wire can help by coming to the party or if someone at BT can hook us up with a copy of the firmware :)

Cheers

Aaron

Bill, at Tripod is now on the case     :thumb:

Maybe we can add another country to the list using the 2700 with the "wrong"  ISP

Bill at Tripod has guided Aaron through changing to a different V6 firmware that has not been tried before and now Aaron's 2700 is connected to his N.Z. ISP !

Full details are available on TRIPOD (http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com/ir1002700HGV.htm#Unlocking%20Telecom%20NZ%20v6.1.1.43)

Bill at Tripod has guided Aaron through changing to a different V6 firmware

I guess it's still not possible to downgrade a V6 unit to V5 yet is it Alan?
