First of all, hello to everyone out there in idnettersland
I have been with idnet for a couple of years now and have never had a problem with my connection, which is nice....
Anyways, I received the news from Idnet about a free upgrade to adsl2+ and i have a couple of questions. Does anyone know when/if my exchange will be enabled (Rawcliffe) and what speeds I should expect when it is?
The stats from my router are SNR Margin 8dB, Line attenuation 31dB, Data Rate 8128kbps downstream, SNR Margin 24dB, Line attenuation 16dB, data rate 448kbps upstream.
Also is my router compatable with the new service? Its a d-link DSL-G624T
Sorry to ask so many questions, but I want to be ready for the switchover.
Hi Fox

you can read about your router here (http://209.85.229.132/search?q=cache:VJXZ2L1gxD8J:ftp://ftp.dlink.es/Adsl/DSL-G624T/Data_sheet/DSL-G624T_Data%2520Sheet.pdf+d-link+DSL-G624T+and+adsl+2%2B&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk&client=firefox-a) it says it supports ADSL2+ but there has been some issues with the equipment in the exchanges and certain routers, Sebby or Lance may have more info. On your line specs you should get quiet a bit more and also more download allowance in the new packages, I have similar line specs and I was given an estimate of 16000kbs by an online checker if ADSL2+ was in my area, you do not have so much headroom on your snr as me but you would see a much greater improvement than those on longer lines so it would be well worth it on your line. Have a look over the threads about WBC on the forum and get a feel for how its gone for others and see what you think. :)
Hi Fox, and :welc: :karma:
Your exchange is not yet showing up as WBC enabled, and there is also no set date. It looks like it's a very small exchange, so won't be high on BT's list. :(
If it was available, you expect to sync in the region of 14.5Mb, but that doesn't help, I know. :)
Hi Fox,
Can't add to the above, but :welc: :karma:
:welc: Fox and :karma:
Thanks very much for the info. It looks like i would get a good increase in speed if BT get their finger out and enable my exchange. Do you think if I contacted BT they would be able to give me a date or isn't there one set yet?
I want my 14 meg NOW! bahwah :bawl:
Plus the lower ping would help me not to die as often while gaming
If you contacted BT, they probably wouldn't have a clue what you're even talking about, or certainly wouldn't be willing to give you any information. Try IDNet, though, and see if they can give you any information.
I will try giving Idnet a ring on monday, cheers Sebby
No problem. :)
I had a look on the link that Baz gave me (samknows) and its says 21CN PSTN switchover target: Q3 2009. Does that mean my exchange will be enabled in the next 3 months or does that only apply to voice traffic and not broadband?
It's only voice traffic, Fox, it needs to be WBC enabled to get the higher speed BB. :)
As Ray says, 21CN is voice (which is currently PSTN).
