:dunno:
Hi all - appreciate any suggestions you can give...
I can't persuade my new Zoom X6 router (5590E) to connect to IDNET. The ADSL status seems quite happy (Showtime), but the Internet light glows red, or just stays off.
I think I've tried all the obvious, such as,
resetting the router to factory defaults, and then setting nothing but username and password (for all other settings the default seems correct)
updating the firmware - actually it already had the latest firmware v5.0.8-70, but I reloaded it anyway
forcing it to use ADSL2 instead of ADSL2+
and of course, contacting IDNet Support :) James there says that the router may be incompatible - does anyone else have a Zoom X6? Did you have to do any magic tricks to get it working?
Thanks in advance...
Welcome to the forum, isheperd! :welc: :karma:
I'm sure I remember some other users previously using that router - I'll have a dig about on the forum and see what I can turn up for you :)
It does sound as if, unfortunately, it's one of those routers that is incompatible with the equipment at your exchange. :(
:welc: I don't think the Zoom is one of the most used routers, but hopefully someone will be along to help you soon.
I found the post asking about the router and ADSL2+, but then also found the subsequent post where the user said they were going to hold back from ording ADSL2+ :(
Thanks Lance :( It sucks if a router on sale for UK ADSL (ebuyer.com (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/113934)) can't connect to UK ADSL.
Anyone out there who's tried, I'd love to know...
The issue is that ADSL2+ wasn't out in the UK when that router went on sale. Similarly, it seems to be the fault of certain manufacturers of equipment used in the exchange, rather than router manufacturers.
Oh, and by the way... :welc: :karma:

I did try forcing it to ADSL2 - you can switch it between (from memory) "Adsl2", "Adsl2PlusOnly", or "Adsl2PlusAuto". Wouldn't we expect that to make some difference?
(thanks everyone for the welcome :) )
Theoretically, yes (as I bet that modem works fine on the ADSL2 Max service). I suspect, however, that it's not to do with the mode but something else.
Had exactly the same problems with 3 different routers myself, all worked great on adsl max but adsl2+ no chance. The only one that worked was dg834g, and I was thinking of getting a Zoom router too because they're very good.
But obviously not with adsl2+!!
Hi
I currently use a Zoom ADSL 6 router (that is what it says on the base of the router). I am not on ADSL 2 or anything fancy just GW5 log in. I must admit that I have never had any problems with the router apart from needing an occasional re-boot. I also have a netbook and a laptop connecting via wifi, again with no problems.
regards
Cheers
Interesting, my login is @idnet.gw6... IDNET guys, is there any difference?
A Netgear DG834G (v3) has already been dispatched to me, just hope I can convince EBuyer that Zoom X6 is incompatible with UK ADSL2+ i.e. to get a refund.

You shouldn't have problems on ADSL2, but ADSL2+ is another matter. :)

Got it, works fine straight out of the box. Thanks guys, and thanks to James @ ID.NET for recommending it. (I wish I'd asked for recommendations
before buying the Zoom...)
Good stuff. :)
That's good to hear. :thumb:
