I just did a BT Speed Test on my line and got the following:
Your DSL connection rate: 4171 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 935 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 3000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 2676 kbps
What do these all mean, I know the DSL connection one is never the same 2 days running when I turn on my router?
DSL connection rate is the speed you are synced at. This determines a theoretical maximum that you will never acheive because your bRAS (see below) will limit it.
IP Profile is you bRAS profile - this is the absolute maximum you will acheive in real world performance. In reality - you will probably acheive about 80% of that.
Actual is the actual throughput that you you really got.
The bRAS is linked to sync speed, since bRAS increments in 512Kbs increments (at the higher end - at the low end increments are 64 Kbs and 128 Kbs) and your bRAS should reach a level as shown here: http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/IPprofile.htm#IP_and_bRAS_profiles according to your sync speed.

Edit: Isn't it nice to talk about Bras and it doesn't involve the anatomy of women ;)
Steve's said it all really. Things look fine. :)
thanks for the info, I had no idea what it all meant
You might want to check out this if you're interested. :)

As an aside - since your sync is towards the lower end for your IP Profile - you could be in with a chance of a table entry over at DSL Zone's speedtest tables which are built on % throughput compared with sync speed - if you want your connection to be glowing in lights - do a speedtest there ealy in the morning :)

If you're really interested you could post the stats from your router and we can advise whether we think you could gain any extra speed or stability from your line!
These are the router stats this morning on ADSL2+ ( I am about 2 miles from the exchange):
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4171 kbps 936 kbps
Line Attenuation 49.5 db 29.3 db
Noise Margin 2.6 db 5.3 db

Now at lunchtime, they are:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4135 kbps 880 kbps
Line Attenuation 50.5 db 29.3 db
Noise Margin 1.9 db 6.8 db
The sync is roughly right for that attentuation, perhaps slightly low, but only slightly. The downstream noise margin is poor though. Have you tried the test socket or removing ring wires?
The other things the two set of results show is that there has been a re-sync :)
