Title: ADSL2
Post by: 4Way on Jun 15, 2009, 17:59:30
Does anyone know how to force the router to connect using ADSL2 rather than ADSL2+. I've been through the menus but that option doesn't seem available. I don't intend to try it until after the training period but I'd like the option to be available to me. The router has V6 firmware btw.

No idea, sorry. One of the 'deep experts' may be able to advise.

Have you seen the information here (http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com/ir1002700HGV.htm#ADSL2+%20Support) Not my area of knowledge, looking at that link does the 2700HGV support ADSL2 (Annex M) at all

I don't think BT's WBC offers ADSL2, just ADSL2+

We have no examples of the 2700HGV working successfully with a confirmed ADSL2, Annex M connection

The only router I know of that can do this is the SpeedTouch 585v6/7.

Thanks for all the replies.  I might try it with a speedtouch when  things have settled down.

This post on thinkbroadband here (http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/btsupplier/3610069-snr-margin-tweaking-on-wbc.html) talks about ADSL2 on WBC and SNR tweaking. From various other posts I have read, it appears that ADSL2 tops out at 12M so if your line only connects at less than 12 you can still get most of the benefits of ADSL2+ without the increase in SNR that ADSL2+ brings. If you are connecting higher than this then stick with ADLS2+

Interesting link now I understand why you mentioned ADSL2.

These do still get a mention from time to time.  I wonder if it's worth trying one, to compare with the 2700?

Well I'm on a Texas MSAN so shouldn't have a problem but I 'll wait for the training period to be up before I give it a go.
