El Reg (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/06/02/microsoft_confirms_october_windows_7_release_date/) reports that:
QuoteWindows 7 will hit store shelves on October 22, Microsoft confirmed today.
The successor to Windows Vista was originally slated for a 2010 roll-out, but last month, Redmond admitted that the OS would arrive in time for the crucial holiday shopping season.
Microsoft said Tuesday that Windows 7 code will be finalized and sent out to manufacturing in the second half of July. The OS will then be made generally available October 22.
Good news indeed. I've been holding off on buying a new machine until this comes out ;) Have only been using it for a few days on a spare box and have to say I really do like it. The security side of it really is a big improvement. Applocker's a much needed addition. I will be enabling it on every box (in audit mode) i go on where there are people who will deny installing stupid things ;)
;D
'Twas ever thus, So.
Good news. Thousands of Christmas PCs will be spared from having Vista crippling their powerful hardware. :P ;D
That thought had crossed my mind, Seb, though I saw it more as thousands of Xmas PCs will be lumbered with Windows 7. ;D
Poor Windows 7. It's not even out to defend itself yet. ;D
Well it may be shipping in October but there are fears it will be more expensive than before :sigh: it will come only if I need a new pc, so its sinking while a float here, no point in upgrading for the sake of it, now if it was something truly stunning.....I still wouldn't ;) come on Google make Android work on netbooks and on arm processors, then we may have a new OS
