Title: Email secure verification pop-up problem
Post by: Ritzy on May 31, 2009, 11:24:49
I don't know if this is an Idnet problem or a general Windows Mail problem, but perhaps someone will very kindly have an answer for me.

When I try to download my emails, a secure verification window pops up asking for Username and Password. I have tried entering my the details from my account properties, but it won't accept them.

I've tried running a system restore but this hasn't helped.

I can send ok, just not receive, but I haven't changed any settings, except that I took the password off my main laptop user account so that my children could use it while I was fixing their computer. I have tried deleting the email account and setting it up again, but the same problem occurs.

I am running Vista Home Premium, so the email client is Windows Mail.

Does anyone know how I can get rid of this? Many thanks.

I don't use Windows Mail, Ritzy, but the principles should be the same across any client, so here goes...

When you talk about entering details from your account properties, do you mean your IDNet account, or the email account?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'took the password off my main laptop user account', could you elaborate on that please?

Thanks for the reply.

From the  email client GUI Tools > Accounts > (Name of account)> Properties > Servers > Incoming Mail Server > Username and Password.

By main laptop user account I mean the Vista user accounts that I use to logon to the system at boot up.

Is this with an IDNet email account, or another?

Welcome    :karma: and can you try turning off Log on using secure password Authentication if its set to on, can be found somewhere in windows mail like Tools, accounts select mail account ,properties, servers, uncheck box for secure logon.

Thanks very much for the welcome.  ;D

The email account is an idnetfreemail.co.uk account.

I have looked at the Logon by Secure Password Authentication and the box is not checked. I wish it was that simple. Everything I touch seems to be going wrong this morning.  :bawl:

So, just to be certain, Ritzy, you are using the username/password that's set on the email account, as shown on your customer accounts page?

I decided to go to my Idnet account page to check that I had the right information and discovered that I had put a @ in my username instead of a . so this has resolved the problem. I'm still not sure what caused it in the first place, though.

Does anyone know if it is possible to change from a idnetfreemail address to a idnet address without having to notify all and sundry? I'm interested in the filtering facility which is not available with the freemail address.

You can set up forwarding to an idnet.com address, Ritzy, then use that to reply from. Correspondents will gradually pick up the change, websites won't, but the forward should be enough with them.

Welcome Ritzy!

As Rik has said, you can set freemail to auto-forward everything which is simple to do and how I did it when idnet.com was first released :)
