Title: Does Sam know?
Post by: Noreen on May 25, 2009, 11:57:07
What would you make of the 21CN items for my exchange?

Either it's running late or BT haven't updated the information, Noreen. I was RFS March 31, but it went live on March 21.

I would guess that it's a bit of both.

Mine is the same, Noreen.  I guess IDNet would know for sure.

They can certainly find out. BT do seem to be lagging their schedule though. :(

You can see an up-to-date  for ADSL2+  exchanges HERE (http://adsl24.co.uk/networkstatus/wbc/list/) and do a live check for your own exchange |HERE (http://adsl24.co.uk/checker/)

Nice to see the BT estimate is as accurate as ever, Alan. :)  :thumb:

About par for the course, probably. On my line, it reports 2M, which is odd as I've had a 2.5M profile for the past year.

Yes, but does it indicate whether I'm WBC enabled or not?

It says it is - the second set of data.

Right, but I wouldn't gain anything by switching to it?

Not from the look of it, though if you are getting 4M I would have thought you would.

Thanks for that, Alan. :karma:

Apparently my exchange IS connected. ;D

I have "no date yet" there are 1119 people in our village so its not big on the list, I guess we may be hooked up sometime in the year 3000  :bawl: When King Canute tried to hold back the tide here, he did not realise hundreds of years later it would actually just hold back BT  :(

It says I should be able to get 2.5mb on line, even though my current profile is 3.5! Still don't have a date for WBC :(

And you don't have any decent LLU options, do you?

Looks like you stand to benefit in a big way, Noreen, because you'll also gain upload speed to something between 800-1000k at a guess.

Post by: Noreen on May 26, 2009, 10:26:32
Yes but to be honest I don't know what I'd do with the extra speed really. ;D
Title: Re: Does Sam know?
Post by: Rik on May 26, 2009, 10:33:31
The upstream is more a 'fringe' benefit than the downstream most of the time, but things like iPlayer will be a lot smoother at that speed, or so I'm told.
Title: Re: Does Sam know?
Post by: Noreen on May 26, 2009, 10:39:04
iPlayer is fine now, Rik. I usually watch it later on my Sony player. ;D

So to answer my original question it seems that either Sam doesn't know or he isn't telling.

The best people to tell you for sure are IDNet. Samknows is a useful reference, but like most of these sites, it's not totally reliable in my experience.

What is the price difference between the ADSL and ADSL2+ packages?

I can't find anything on Idnet's website

They've not yet been announced, Alan, until testing is complete.

I've read in various places that 'Sam Knows' isn't always quite as up to speed as it should/could be on WBC.

I'm also told that http://adsl24.co.uk/networkstatus/wbc/list/ is reliable though (just input your exchange name to see the BT window for your locality) ...

According to ADSL24 'Milton Keynes' is "Already Live" !

It is, I move on June 8.

Ah, I assumed you were waiting for it arrive (as opposed to waiting to be activated (if you see what I mean)).

My mistake.

I didn't rush, I thought I'd let a few others find the pain first. ;)

As far as the situation at my exchange is concerned it looks as though Sam does now know. There's now a date of 31/5/09 which is rather strange as I signed up to IDNet's new service before that.

Oh yes, mine now says the same.  How weird.
