I decided to keep my PB and upgraded it to Vista ,now alls fine with it in fact I was rather pleased with it . I cane see that the old XP is still there in or on a "partition"which I can just about figure out...can I take the XP off ?
My aim now is to take advantage of a good offer for this machine and set up.
Here are my options I think
I did make revoery discs when I first got this machine....is it possible to reset the machine with these disc ?
Would it be better to delete the XP ?
You know what this is about I do not know the person well enough to jsut hand it over and I want the basic machine with no data on it before agreeing the sale......
The simplest answer, other than a hammer as it would not be worth much then ;D
Delete the XP, David, if you're sure you don't need or want it anymore. If you have access to the partition, then re-format it at least.
Thanks Rik I had hope this would do it .I couldnt work out if Vista was using any of the old OS
It won't be, David. If you're feeling strong, you could delete the partition and re-install Vista to the entire disk.
:thnks: Thats a weight off my mind will do it later (work at 1pm)
I hope you're on double-time. :)
Triple :thumb:
Better yet. :thumb:
It is on my rates ;)
My rates are very flat. ;)
Dont worry it will level out ;D
A bit like Norfolk you mean? ;D
Broadly speaking ;D
I'd be inclined to delete all partitions and do a fresh install of Vista, David. It's a much cleaner way to install Windows.
And we all want clean Windows... ;D :out:
I will go and fetch the ladder then ;D
Thanks I will do this.....as long as the thing is relatively safe I'm OK
Safe relatives, now that's another subject entirely, David. :)
  :hehe: :clever: and so apt in my case ;D
You may also want to use a secure shredder on the disk, just to be on the safe side.
Steve
Do you have any recommendations, Steve?

Thanks, Ted. :thumb:
Thanks Ted is this easy to use .....you know me if it can go wrong I will find a way.........to be honest in an ideal world I would have taken the HD out and obliterated it but that isnt an option and I have too many set ups here 2 lap tops 2 desktops is enough for one man really
Quick cuppa I think ,just finished for the day ;)
No need for it to be quick then, David. ;)
It Jill who normally tells me of my illiterate ways ;D ;D

The Lark Ascending.............................soothes my troubled brow ;D
I've got an ascending TomTom atm, having just booted it skywards in an attempt to solve a problem. ;)
 Ihave had my Navman for a few years and it is still a brilliant tool and one of the cheapest its never let me down and so accurate .....
My only issue with the TT is that it doesn't want to use the M6 Toll. So far, all the suggestions from TT support have involved me losing all my own settings and not resolving the issue (which I think is a flaw in the program logic). Luckily, I have backups, so it's an easy job to restore everything (though I did find it tricky when the thing went into Polish for a while!!). Computers... :shake:
TT have the best name but I thought overpriced well for the few journeys I make ....blame the IT not The TT ;D
So do I, David. :)
My Sony has never let me down. Shame they've stopped making them.
They just got lost along the way Simon >:D

I had the same problem with TT software Rik.
The only way I could get it to route me via the M6 Toll was to zoom in to the maximum setting and carefully generate a waypoint actually on the M6 Toll road itself. Then to travel from Cheshire to Dover I had to instruct the thing to route via that waypoint. Took me several goes to set up a waypoint that did the job. A bit of a b@ll ache but it did the job in the end.
BTW. Have had the NC10 for about 2 weeks now. Very impressed. Just put the SRWare Iron browser (Google Chrome without the 'extra' bits) and it flies.

Yes its very easy, download the program, burn it to a CD \ DVD, boot from that disc and follow the instructions. You can pretty much accept all the defaults, It takes a while to run through, that's because it does such a thorough job at wiping the HD.
Make sure there is nothing on the HD you need, you will not be getting it back, not even from a data recovery firm!
The worst that can happen is that it won't wipe your HD, in which case its HAMMER TIME (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c4L4CPfQY8&feature=fvst) ;D
 ;D

Thanks for that, JB, it confirms my suspicion that there's a flaw in the logic somewhere - it sees the toll route as longer and therefore slower, and ignores it for that reason. In fact, it's faster, of course.

It's a nice little machine, isn't it. I would want to run Photoshop on it, but for surfing, email, the odd letter etc it's great.
