Someone I don't really know has just brought a "broken" computer here for me to look at.
When I check, I discover it has Win XP service pack 1 installed, with no anti-virus or anything else.
Apparently he uses dial up so updates take too long :eek4:
He has left it with me, it may take some time...................................................
I'm despatching Sue with a supply of food and drink, Alan. :)
I reckon a format might be in order!
I think it would be far easier than playing catch up.

The actual fault was a dead motherboard battery, now I have to work out what data etc is important and get it all off the drive before doing the format.

I am not too sure, but it may in fact be easier to do catch up by doing a re-install over the top, I have a copy of XP with every update slipstreamed into it already. I will probably try that first and see what happens.
:fingers: :fingers: :fingers: :fingers: :fingers: ;D
Well the re-install over the top completed without incident, the virus scanner etc can do their thing overnight and i will leave it running for the next few days.
In the morning we are off to spend the weekend in the Lake District, every year a group of friends meet up for a reunion. It is always in a different place and this year we are at the Trout Hotel, Cockermouth.
Their bar takings will be up and so will the barman
It's a hard life.
That's good, Alan. Enjoy your trip. :)
Have a great trip, Alan, you should try and meet up with Baz while you're there. :)
Sat in the bar on a notebook borrowed from a passerby, next round please
It is quite wet here
Of course it's wet, it's a bar... ;) :out:
