I had a go with WavePad sometime last year and it's OK, especially for free but it does not match up in all respects to the likes of CoolEdit Pro, not that you can get this one anymore even at the expensive price it used to be and I have heard rumblings that its successor, Adobe Audition has some issues especially in Vista but these may be sorted out by now.

We run Real Time Simulations of Electrical Power Transmission and Distribution Systems at work and have some 24 track digital recorders that can capture hours and hours of Wave files. We were after something to chop these files up with in a bit of a hurry one day last year and after a bit of Googling I found WavePad and it did what we wanted at the time with no issues so no complaints. The use we have is a now and again one and is such that it is difficult to justify a large outlay so WavePad for free has no competition!  :thumb:

Ah that's interesting because the Company uses McAfee Security and it never blinked over my download but it is notorious for what it lets through. I thinks I got it here. (http://wavepad.en.softonic.com/)

I mentioned Wavepad at work today and was reminded that we had found another one in this category that was to all intents and purposes even better provided you are happy to save your resulting files as uncompressed WAVE files. No big deal really as there are loads of format coverters to be downloaded for free too.

For anyone that might be interested take a look at Music Editor Free (MEF) (http://www.music-editor.net/).  :thumb:

I like Sony Soundforge too much to change to anything else.  :)
