Title: Windows XP drive letter allocation
Post by: Broadback on Mar 26, 2009, 09:11:11
Is there any way of altering the drive letter that XP allocates a particular drive? My old m/c had the 1st internal drive as C the second as D, this one has the DVD as D and the second internal as G, confuses the hell out of me, not that that is difficult!

Right click on My Computer, select Manage > Disk Management. Select the DVD drive, right click and select change drive letter. Change that to E or above. Then, select the second HD and change that to D. Job done. :)

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management

will allow you to swap your drive letters around.

Just be cautious in relabeling a disk with system files on it.
