Title: Email: Domain Name Mismatch
Post by: David58 on Mar 19, 2009, 08:06:32
My introductory message says that my SMTP is smtp.idnet.net

When I attempt to send email I get the following message:

Security Error: Domain Name Mismatch
You have attempted to establish a connection with
"smtp.idnet.net". However, the security certificate presented
belongs to  "(mail.idnet.net.uk, www.idnet.net.uk)". It is
possible, though unlikely, that someone may be trying to intercept
your communication with this website.

If you suspect the certificate shown does not belong to
"smtp.idnet.net", please cancel the connection and notify the site
administrator.

[View Certificate] [OK] [Cancel]

I don't think this is a "security" problem as I believe the other domains are owned by IDNet, but it is a pain and whatever option I take, the message send fails and I have to use a different smtp server.

Suggestions?
David

:welcome: :karma:  I remember that pop-up when I set up mail on my macbook I ignored it and have had no issues since.I don't know why you can't send mail perhaps someone later will be able to help or contact support. BTW I use smtp.idnet.com as I have .com email

Hi David and welcome to the forum. :welc: :karma:

Assuming you have idnet.com email addresses, switch to using smtp.idnet.com and pop3.idnet.com, if you're using one of the other domains, you'll need to have a word with support. mail.idnet.net is a valid domain, though, but you could also use smtp.idnet.net and pop3.idnet.net.

Hi David

You can either turn off SSL on your outbound mail connection or change the server name to match the Certificate: mail.idnet.net.uk

Or you can use the smtp.idnet.com server if you wish.

Simon

Thanks all,

I was not using SSL (TLS if available in TBird), so I have changed the SMTP setting to mail.idnet.net.uk.  Seems to have done the trick after one initial reluctance to send.
