Title: WHAT AN ABSOLUTE IDIOT!!!
Post by: quandam on Mar 13, 2009, 14:39:41
What an absolute idiot/pillock I am, official!

Apologies are due all round. I have got the router up and running (using it now).

Not sure if I have got the guts to tell you what I was doing wrong  Oh well! In for a penny, in for a pound!

I had the ADSL line connected to the 'phone' socket on the router and not the ADSL socket     Will anyone ever talk to me again? (probably not).

Simply changed over to the correct socket  and Bingo, up and running in seconds.

Sincere thanks to all and sincere apologies for being such a pillock.

We've all done it, or something similar. Glad you're sorted (why don't they make sockets different?).  :thumb:

Well done, you had us worried that the 2700HGV had more secrets.

Remember, the man that never made a mistake never did anything.

Good on yer :thumb: The phone socket should have had a piece of tape over it, if the router was new :dunno:
I was going to use a blushing smiley, but you've used them all

Edited for spill chucker :thumb:

It's funny Rik, how something right in front of you gets overlooked, I was looking all over the shed for a screw, (stop it at the back ) and it was on the end of my screwdriver that's magnetised :wall:

I've added a new guy, just for you, Quandum!  :red:  ;D

Thanks for coming clean and giving us a giggle.  We've all done it, in fact, I spent a whole afternoon using a telephone cable instead of an ADSL lead, and wondering why it didn't work!   :red:

Yesterday I was called out to a CCTV system that had been disconnected by the carpet fitters while they were fitting the office out. I spent an hour trying to figure why 4 of the 8 cameras were all ghosting and sometimes showing on two locations instead of just one. Remade the ends and still could not sort it, then I noticed that they had plugged the ethernet plug in OK but they had plugged a second one in the video in socket.  :red:

The good thing, if I have understood all that has transpired in this thread and the other one, is that BT's V6 firmware works just fine with IDNet and an upgrade is not the fearful thing it once appeared to be or have I missed something subtle?

Down under Advanced in my detailed log I see this,

QuoteWRN  2009-03-13T14:40:14Z  cwmd:  session failed...
INF  2009-03-13T14:40:14Z  cwmd:  session will be retried in 340526(ms)
INF  2009-03-13T14:46:14Z  cwmd:  retried session started, server: 'https://cwmp.cms.smehomehubrms.bt.com', event code(s): '0 BOOTSTRAP'
WRN  2009-03-13T14:47:14Z  cwmd:  httpc_poll_dispatch - Connection timed out
WRN  2009-03-13T14:47:14Z  cwmd:  session failed...

repeating endlessly and in the other thread or on a link in it I read that the "smehomehub" server is obsolete or something to that effect so that it is possible that my older single SSID BT Business Hub (2Wire 2700 HGV) possibly wouldn't be targeted for an upgrade. If this does prove to be true in the fullness of time am I and those of us with these more elderly versions (to suit our own disposition) set to miss out on something better?

Could there be a clue in the "homehub" bit of "smehomehubrms" that this server serves BT Home Hub users rather than Business Hub users. Maybe it was originally shared and then the Business Hubs moved to another server. If this is the case the original one may not be in disuse. Any thoughts on this speculation?

BTW quandam  :karma: for perseverance and coming clean.  ;)

I'm very glad to hear you got it working! We've all done something like that, so don't feel too bad about it. :P

I'm glad you till tell us because it's really good to know that it does work.  Mine hasn't updated yet but I see lines like this in the detailed log which looks like it's contacting the scary server..

cwmd:  session started, server: 'https://pbthdm.bt.motive.com/cwmpWeb/CPEMgt', event code(s): '4 VALUE CHANGE,2 PERIODIC'

goes nowhere so I think this answers my question about my link still being active or not.
Maybe as you say you have the "scary" one!  :dunno:
