Title: IDNet emails delayed - again
Post by: Dopamine on Mar 03, 2009, 04:23:25
Working very late, waiting for an important email that I - extremely stupidly, given IDNet's history of email problems - asked to be sent to an IDNet email address I have. It's still not arrived so I've checked a few unimportant emails that I've received to xxx@idnet.com today and see that they are arriving late. Currently the delay is 57 minutes.

Anyone else noticed a delay today?

No, but I know there's been a lot of spam hits of late, ie millions of spams.

No delays I can see with my own tests. IDNet are not aware of any delays, and have just tested from GMail to IDNet with a 1-second arrival. They think the most likely issue is that the sending SMTP server is not handling grey-listing very well and, instead of re-sending in five minutes, is waiting an hour or so, or until they have a number of messages to re-transmit. When you get the mail, if you can forward the headers to support, they can give you a more definite answer.

It's back to normal now. It wasn't a grey listing problem this time though, as a test email from idnet.com to idnet.com took over an hour last night.

I don't usually rely on IDNet for email having suffered badly with them last year, but it's disappointing to see that they still have problems. The hassle of changing email addresses is one of the biggest reasons people are reluctant to switch ISPs, so when a poor service causes users to open and pay for private domain email services, as it did for me, and consequently it becomes a lot easier for us to switch ISPs, surely that can't be good for any ISPs business.

Have you sent the headers to support, Dopamine, that's the only way they can work out what went wrong.
