Can anyone explain why speeds vary so much on my line? The upstream and downstream noise ratios are all pretty steady, the line sync is pretty steady at around 3500, BT say the exchange has no capacity problems (Rockingham), yet my line wavers between 400kb and 1.9mb - It still all works OK and I have no real beef but why does it slow down so much?
Sounds like contention at the exchange. Are the lowest speeds in the evening?
You should get yourself a BT Voyager 2100.. ;)
:out:
Troublemaker. :)
Back to normal now... 20 minutes of 400k at 4'o'clock
That Voyager relic is so last century ;D
That's the thing, there is no "normal". You're very much at the mercy of everybody else on the BT network, your own exchange, the internet in general, the websites you are visiting or downloading from in particular...................
and they're never all doing the right thing at the right time.
Your speed will vary, and as long as it's good for a large part of the time, that's as normal as it gets.

It may well be, but my speeds are stable 24/7 and it is rock solid, no point in having new century if last century works fine for me ..
Talking of last century...
I'm a Time Team fan, and was thinking that if I build an extension to the house, future archeologists will be able to say that the building was first constructed in the 20th C and later modified in the 21st...

I'm a Time Team fan,
Me to. ;)
It's a great show, isn't it. I just wish, once in a while, they'd say "we need more than three days, we're going to stay here till we finish"...
Agreed, they did a dig in my village a few years back, they do actually have a clear up team that stays on for about a week, putting stuff back together.
But I know what you mean.. ;)
IIRC, they have done it once, but I'd like to see more flexibility introduced. I suppose, though, that it would make the programming hard, not to mention stretching the budget.
Wonderful concept, though. I can just imagine the first time anyone tried to pitch Time Team to a TV company - "You want us to show an hour of people digging holes?" :)
I like the show, but don't watch all that often as I am afraid Tony Robinson just annoys me.
Well, I do confess I always have a Baldrick moment with TR, but overall I think he contributes as a communicator. I just wonder how the diggers react to all the re-takes? :)
