Hi netters.
Anybody familiar with the following problem with ASUS mobo's.
It's been fine for ages but recently on bootup the green ASUS screen freezes for several minutes before finally clicking over and continuing through the detection and other black screen tasks and into Windows startup screen (XP Home).
Once it's there everything is normal, and the freeze problem is intermittent. Once stuck on this screen the boot message and/or setup (DEL for BIOS etc) options don't have any effect.
There's something that its doing behind that green screen that's having probs from time to time. I've not done anything to the machine recently.
BTW Mobo is ASUS A8V deluxe
Ideas anybody?
Is the screen displayed by the BIOS or by Windows, I'm guessing the former? If so, is there an option to turn it off, so you can see where the POST is up to at the time?
I've got an ASUS board, although I don't know anything about this problem at all. The only thing I can think of is that there's some sort of BIOS corruption. It might be worth trying to flash the BIOS, then reset to factory defaults.
Have you added any new / different usb devices ?
On my pc occasionally I have to take out the external hard drive to get it to boot up. Asus m/b.
That happened on our Dell PC, Rich, and it turned out it needed a BIOS update.
There is a patch for some asus boards for a USB problem, might be worth checking the site, and I would as has been suggested disable the asus screen and see the post one. if there is a new bios that has worthwhile updates and may solve your issues then go for it or reflash the one you have.
As Rik said, check the BIOS for an option to disable the splash screen, then you should be able to see the post information, have a look at that to see if all is well.

I have had a quick look on how to update my BIOS which is ver 1. I think I will leave well alone well above my skill level.
Thanks for explaining why it is happening but I can live with this problem.
