I never trust experts. OTOH, as an expert in Windows... :) I've been using Windows since the first, runtime, version. Experience tells me you should never buy anything from M$ until SP1.

Oh, me too. I'm even buying a new machine 'ahead of schedule' so that I can get XP on it. The only thing I've seen about Vista so far that actually interests me is that it shuts down in 2 seconds, or so they say.

For the rest, I don't want Aero, I don't want the machine controlling what I can do, and I don't want to have to buy a raft of new software and/or hardware because my current stuff won't work with Vista.

I note this morning that Raxco (PerfectDisk) have found a bug in disk write operations with Vista, which could corrupt a disk. M$ are working on it.

Why am I not surprised?

It's a waste of time Rik, some peeps just have to have the latest anything at any price...  ;)

I know, Inactive. The thing I'm looking forward to is all those people who use me for tech support rushing out to buy it, then phoning me to be told, "Sorry, don't know a thing about it, can't help..." Could be a good year for peace and quiet. :)

Some check! Didn't ask the obvious question about pricing policy, hardly looked at the OS, didn't touch on security issues. It did do a good PR job for MS. The BBC is still funded by us, isn't it?  :(

Agreed Rik, I turned it over, I couldn't stomach any more.

Great PR job for Microsoft.

They were one or two interesting snippets though.

Problem is, the company usually pays for its PR, this time, we paid for it. How much further can Bill Gates go towards taking over the world?  :(

What I want to know is it just a case of putting in the restore disk that game with the computer and follow instructions?
