Title: Disconnection when Phone rings!!!
Post by: Cookiemonster on Feb 11, 2009, 09:04:33
Hey peeps, Does anyone know what could cause my internet to disconnect when my house phone rings? I have my BB connected in the master socket and my Sky and house phone connected on another socket, however when i get a call my session disconnects and then re-connects, causing a re-sync!

It sounds like an unfiltered phone or a faulty filter.

I'll second that, Rik. :)

Hmmm changed the filter twice and it's defiantly filtered so I'm lost to what is causing it. :dunno:

Try changing the phone. If that doesn't help, then you need to check your extension wiring for any faults.

Just tried a different phone and got the same result

That leaves the wiring, then (or something very esoteric). Try removing the faceplate at the master socket and connecting the router and phone to the test socket which is revealed. If that cures the problem, it's your wiring, if it doesn't, have a word with support and tell them what you have tried.

Is it possible for you to use a different router to eliminate that from the possibilities?

Narrowed the problem down to the extension coming from the Sky box into the socket, with that plugged in and filtered i get disconnections, without it it's fine so a new one of them is in order I think.

Sky boxes are notorious for causing problems, you could try double filtering it. Some people say it works.

If you're out of contract, just leave the Sky box disconnected, they are a regular source of problems.

Not out of contract so it will stay disconnected till i get back from offshore, then i'll replace it and double filter the bugger.

If you just have a single box, Steve, Sky don't police the phone connection anyway. ;)

No we have multi-room but the other box isn't connected. It's in my room and i don't need it plugged in. If i want a film I'll plug it in to order then disconnect.

Beware the warning letters from Sky, in that case, Steve. It might be an idea to connect the second box periodically and force it to call home (Services - 4 - 7 iirc).

Well it hasn't been connected since i had it installed about 6 months ago and no letters so far, but i'll heed your warning! :thumb:
