Title: Hairy router moments
Post by: D-Dan on Feb 06, 2009, 00:55:08
I found out tonight that the firmware in my router was hopelessly out of date, so decided to upgrade. What a pallava.

The upgrade failed four times, and I thought I'd well and truly killed it . I was nearly ready to break out the spare in the cupboard, when suddenly, the fifth attempt worked (after unplugging the phone cable to avoid flagging an error at BT, and powering it down a hundred times).

It was definitely hairy there for a while. Ahh, well. All's well that ends well. At least, now I can go to bed

Sweat palms, laboured breathing... and that's just walking upstairs to the computer. :)

I'm glad you got there in the end, Steve. I guess it's why a lot of people apply the old "if it ain't broke..."

I tend to like to do upgrades, even if I'm not having any problems, though. ;)

Sounds like the first time I had to restore from a backup. I had palpitations for days after

Know just what you mean, Ian. The waiting for something to fall over syndrome. :)

It's my curse, too. I fit ain't broke - upgrade it anyway, you might break it this time.

Having said that - it's hanging on at a slightly better sync (7104 instead of 6944) with what seems to be a better SNR (at this time of night, 6.5 instead of 6.0) so fingers crossed it was worth it :)
