Since the recent IDNET hardware upgrade, my line pseed has improved slightly :D I now get about 7.3Mb/s up from about 6.9Mb/sec, which I'm very pleased with. I live about 1Km from our exchange.
Is there now an ADSL 2 service available from Idnet? If so, how do I know if my line supports it?
I am still using a Netgear 834G modem/router. I have thought of changing it but it seems reliable enough and runs 24/7. I giuess if a "2" sevice is available, and my line supports it, I would have to change to a suitable modem/router?
I should know this stuff better
The service will be available once testing has finished, Zim, to those on WBC-enabled exchanges. You can check the status of yours at:

Dumb question Rik. What is WBC enabled.
A check on my exchange shows this
Congratulations, you are in a broadband enabled area.
However, there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection.
The following services are available in your location:
BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
AOL LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Tiscali LLU
Tiscali TV (via Tiscali LLU)
Orange LLU (Formerly Wanadoo)
Help please...
WBC is the new BT service, Zim, it shows up with a line like this:
21CN WBC status:
RFS date set : 31/03/2009
Underneath the ADSL/ADSLMax/SDSL data.

There's always LLU if you want to rebel against BT's snail speed at upgrading exchanges. ;)
Not to mention profiles...
Them too!
