Title: Interesting map of WBC exchanges and nodes
Post by: Rik on Jan 18, 2009, 12:55:18
ADSL24 have produced an intriguing map of the WBC exchanges and the nodes to which they are connected. Geography, it seems, is not the arbiter, eg most Northern Ireland exchanges run through Newcastle rather than Glasgow.

Samknows has another useful little feature, it shows the coverage of each exchange http://www.samknows.com/broadband/mapping/mapping.php

WBC is the new service which will, eventually, replace the ADSL Max service. It offers speeds of up to 24Mbps.

You can zoom in on both maps, it makes it easier to locate your exchange.

Thanks, Glenn, zooming in on the London area on Rik's map helped a lot. :thumb:

Hmm, my exchange is showing as "Go live date: NOW", which tallies with the Q1 2009 switchover target quoted on Sam Knows.

Apart from checking on Sam Knows, is there any other way of finding out if an exchange has been enabled?  Not had any loss of sync this year, so I'm assuming my exchange hasn't gone live yet.

And I can't find any reference to the WBC trials.  Did I miss something?  :bawl:

So Sam Knows doesn't say the switchover has occurred? Perhaps it hasn't, or Sam Knows is just out of date.

The WBC trial isn't something official, afaik; just email IDNet if you'd like to take part (they should be able to tell if your exchange is enabled, too).

Mine is due 1 March - if I take part in the trial - what's the downside?

I wouldn't say there's really any downsides; it's just that there may be teething problems.
