Title: Router query
Post by: Myst on Jan 08, 2009, 21:26:54
Got a strange problem with a router.

Freind of mine has just bought a Netgear N router ( http://www.netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/WirelessNRoutersandGateways/WNB2100.aspx )

Should be a straightforward job - username / password and yay all working.
however for some reason as soon as you put the cable in from the filter the whole phone line goes dead! I've swapped the filter and cable over to no effect.
yet as soon as i put the old router (speedtouch cr*p 585) it works again.

All i can think is that the new one is goosed and sending feedback down the line causing this?

Any other thoughts.

No other sockets to try it on

I really can't for the life of me think what would cause that, other than the filter, which you've ruled out. :/

Try a different lead from the router to the phone, Myst. If that doesn't fix it, then I think the router is shorting the line.
