Title: This is weird
Post by: sobranie on Jan 06, 2009, 19:36:49
Had a 'phone call this afternoon from acquaintance re. Dell laptop that crashed. Eventually sorted it by 'phone.
Romy switched her Dell lappie on this evening and lo and behold, an immediate crash. Got lappie working again but mouse totally inoperative and so is 'any mouse' I plug in.
Added to this, my mouse went haywire this afternoon and refused to work for over an hour and then just decided to resume service.
All this seems to point to an unknown virus (date activated maybe).
Question now is , anyone else having probs pls??

Sorted Romy' lappie.  All usb ports had been rendered inactive. Mind boggling or what??

Indeed! What about your computer? Or is that still a mystery? :)

I just wonder whether there's been a mains spike which has upset things?

All systems go at the mo. thanks but jftr I'd like to report my processor fan stopped dead a few nights ago.  Wasn't aware of a thin screeching sound until Romy brought it to my att. She said that it had been doing the 'noise' for a few days.  Horror when I opened the case and found 1 dead processor fan. (Well, nearly dead ... like 10 revs a minute).  Changed the complete heat sink/fan block soonest, wasn't in the mood for vac cleaning and fin scraping. To cut a long story short the pentium doesn't seem to have suffered any harm and 'puter fine.
Might have been a different outcome if I'd done any intensive downloading etc etc. of course.
Moral .... keep the innards clean like more than once every 5 years should do the trick. ;D  Possibly do the same to your ears!!
Passing thought .... why didn't the processor fry??

It should have shut down before it fried, at least in theory.
