Title: Have the spam rules changed recently?
Post by: rickus on Dec 31, 2008, 13:56:33
Happy New Year everyone.

I have an e-mail account on idnet.com and usually access it by Outlook Express

When I have accessed it directly through Internet Explorer it has had loads in the junk folder, c99% of it spam and 1% genuine.

I have gone in via IE twice recently. There is no spam in the junk folder but there were a couple of genuine mails in the junk folder - 1 from an address that normally gets through and the other from a new address.

IDNET helpdesk not manned at the moment - so can anyone here explain please.

It's difficult to explain without specifics, but the spam filters work at several levels, and may have been triggered by the contents of the messages. Spam is auto-deleted, so that could explain why the junk folder was otherwise empty.  :hny:

Thanks Rik

Two points to note:

- Cannot think why the content of the blocked mails should fall foul of the spam filters

- There used to be 10-20 spam mails per day and these could be found in the junk folder - now there are none

The spam filters are at several levels, and the boundary ones will be rejecting some mail that previously got through, so the delivered spam should reduce. As I say, I can't really answer in detail without some specifics, so your best bet would be to call IDNet on Monday, or drop them an email.
