Mine went down at 21:09, and still to recover as I post this from my phone.
Yes- though it's come back this second.
Back now. :dunno:

sorry Simon just saw your other post about this
Mine too, this does seem to happen regularly. I'm using another connection at the moment...
Dropped twice for me today, once just now and once at around 1.30pm. Absolutely infuriating when I'm in the middle of listening to a broadcast.
I know people will jump to IDNet's defence and say that other ISPs are worse, or that it's beyond IDNet's control - and that may well be true - but I was with Pipex/Tiscali for several years and never suffered anywhere near as many drops as I do with IDNet.
So was I, Dopamine, and have to say the same - but I guess the networks have become much more crowded over the last couple of years. I won't make excuses for IDNet, as we know BT have them over a barrel, and until the promised upgrades are delivered, I guess this is just something we either have to tolerate, or move on.
Down at 21.10 for a little over 7 minutes. Sync maintained. Down for a minute on 15th. I make that 4 interupts in Nov/Dec.
i have lost conection twice in two days now. very annoying. some people say you get what you pay for, not always the case.
Mine dropped too (in the middle of a game ) Came back within a few minutes
Gone again.
Twice in two hours is not good! I've put a call in to IDNet, which will hopefully be responded to.
Seems like it's back again now.
it may help to locate things.my connection has stayed solid....only trying to help :fingers:
went down again after posting my last post. time to start looking for another provider?
Connection could not be established: Disconnected because idle timeout reached
oh dear two now in an hour :(
Further to my call, I will also email them with a link to this thread - sorry guys, that's the best we can do at this time.
Mine's still down although did briefly re-appear for about a minute. It's rather frustrating as it's down for this length of time.

Which, of course, you are perfectly at liberty to do. An LLU provider would not be at the mercy of BT, as IDNet are at the moment, awaiting unfulfilled, promised network upgrades.

Have you tried rebooting your router? You shouldn't have to, but it might just help. :dunno:
Yes, I rebooted it earlier. The connection to the exchange is no problem. It appears to be the PPP connection that's the problem. The router continuously tries to connect until it gives up and then tries again.
Just lost connection myself a few minutes ago. Rebooted the laptop and it's okay again now.
Me too a couple of time now.
It's done my profile no good at all!

Sorry, I'm not the person to try to help you technically. As most people's connections seem to have recovered, I can only suggest a call to IDNet in the morning, unless someone else has any ideas.
lost mine at about the same time now my connection profiles droped from 7500kbps to 3500kbps :bawl:
Herefordshire
lost mine at 9, came back up and dropped again at 10, this time not coming back up.
I've had one previous drop out back in november, leaving router off for 15 mins cured that, guess I unplug it and go to bed
Mine's come up again now, hopefully it won't disappear again. Still no problems with the connection to the exchange, it was just the PPP connection.
Just come back to the puter and no connection again, second time today. I switch the computer off overnight but leave the router on, it was out both Saturday and Sunday when I got up. This four drops now and the sync rate has dropped after two of them. Down from 3296 to 2496 :(
The weekend drops I put down to the houses either side of me trying to outdo each other with their Christmas lights but seems it may have been otherwise.

It's highly unlikely that a loss of PPP session will affect your IP profile. It shouldn't really affect your sync at all. If your profile really has dropped, it's indicative of a poor line, or noise somewhere, between you and the exchange.

Yes, damn Christmas lights. My connection had been stable as anything till this last week

Rebooting my router picked up a lower sych, 3072 kbps instead of the daytime usual of greater than 3500 kps,
With BT one strike and you are out without looking I know that equates to an IP Profile of 2500 kbps from previous bitter experience. :(
connection to the exchange has stayed connected only ppp dropped
though my line defiantly slowed down after the disconnect
Welcome to the forum, Matt. :karma:

i know is shouldent change
Fair enough, but it does seem an extraordinarily instant change in profile. Are you sure it's your profile that's changed, not just your sync? If it's only sync, then you have the chance to retry to sync at at higher speed and save your profile, as BT's systems do usually allow some time before dropping your profile.
I use Routerstats to remotely monitor a friend's unstable connection, which when good syncs at around 2200kbps. Several times a day there will be a burst of noise that drops the connection, which then resyncs at 160kbps, which if left would destroy her profile. Routerstats is programed to force a resync when the noise margin climbs above 20db, and this often takes an hour or more to be reached. Even so, despite frequent drops and low syncs at 160kbps, we've managed to keep her profile at 1750 for the last three months.
It's not as ideal as having a stable line, but utilising Routerstats with its alarm function set to "reboot" can save you many days stuck with a low profile.
I make that 3 interrupts throughout today 15th Dec and about 4 for December to date. I logged 1 in November. Perhaps we will get a report on cause tommorrow.
I'm certainly expecting one. It seems to be a router at fault.
I've asked for one. :)
Which is why i'm expecting it!
Having been through the router log, I suffered no loss of connection last night, but I did see a mains surge at the time you're all reporting problems, and I wonder if the two might be related. I do know that Simon D is looking into what happened and will let us know later.
Welcome to the forum, Matt. :welc: :karma:
Hi All
One of our pipes into BT suffered a couple of blips last night, we are awaiting a report from BT. Apologies for the inconvenience.
Simon
Thanks, Simon. Perhaps you should move to cigars? ;D
I was going to suggest a plumber. ;)
Thanks Simon, tho' my connection didn't drop.
seems fast as a fast thing today :)

Or call the fire brigade? ;D
Surely only if the firewall starts to cause a problem ;D
Or starts to make strange noises during the night. ;)
The blips the other night were caused by BT performing some maintenance. They had actually notified us but unfortunately we missed it in the blizzard of notices that they continually send to us. Apologies for that. We've asked them, again, to restrict their maintenance periods to after midnight.

With our lot, Simon, somewhere between 03:00 and 03:02 should be about right. ;) Thanks for the update. :thumb:
Thanks, Simon. :)
