Do you mean your download limit Fletch ?

If so Idnet will simply charge you £1 per Gb extra.

Ooops, time to review your downloading or upgrade to the 'Home Supermax' package which will give you a limit of 60Gb.

(Peak: 32.881 GB | Off-Peak: 18.7978 GB)

Still gonna end up paying!!  Doh!!

If you do decide to upgrade to a package with a larger download limit then Idnet may let you upgrade now and not charge you the extra, especially if your still near the start of your charging period and you don't downgrade again in the near future. Of course I can't speak for Idnet but its worth contacting them to see if you can come to some arrangement.

Another option would be to transfer to an isp with unlimited download.

What are you doing to download apx 60Gb a month?

I class myself as a heavy user and on average i do about 10Gb peak.

I know what I said above, but it's not really our business to be fair.

We all hate slow connections/downloading. and people moan on here quickly when there download speeds drop.

wonder what the main cause is? (apart from BT)

Is there any other cause, Dean? ;)

Those who download 60GB/month pay, either through paying more money (this is how IDNet operate, as well as others) or being throttled. BT are to blame entirely, imho. They charge ISPs more if their customers download more, but you can be sure that they don't reinvest that money in their network.

Nor do they give a rebate if customers download less. :(

That too. I guess to a point, BT's costs are fixed, though (except I'm sure their base prices are too high anyway).

They're more than welcome to bill me. Contractually I owe them........ I hope its not a bug in their system.

Has anyone ever been charged before?

No, I went a little bit over once, never heard a thing.

I suspect they look at it on a medium-term basis, but that's just my guess.
Title: Re: Bandwidth

i think i've been charged once when i went 4 gig over, but normally only a little bit over won't attract a charge.

I rarely go over. The only time I do is with the daytime cap. That's when I'm too busy and need my sleep to want a PC whirring by my head throughout the night.

I imagine I'll be close next month though as I'm reinstalling my main PC, which will involve every Vista patch and driver since release. It was huge when I last did it about 2 months after Vista was released. Oh it's gonna be a long day.
