I've been playing around with Opera and I must admit I quite like it (not that it'll replace FF as my default browser), but one thing that annoys me is that when you open a new tab the browser shifts focus to the new tab. Anyone know if it's possible to keep the focus on the original tab? (I can't seem to find it in Preferences > Advanced > Tabs)
TIA
I've got opera on my machine at home Steven. I don't use it much but if I can find a solution I'll post it here.
Does Opera still think it's worth paying for to get rid of the ads?
It's one of the things I've never liked about Opera, Steven. :(

Oh well.... Seems a major omission though.
I'm using Opera Mini on my mobile and it's awesome! Full web pages (minus flash content) sure beats those custom wap sites...
The great thing about Opera Mini is that it's actually Opera's servers that request the page, compress it, and then display it on your phone. That's why it's so quick. :)
I wonder what they'd do to The Ring?

Indeed. Even YouTube works on my mobile, however I wonder if it's a good idea for sites like forums where you have to sign in?
I've been using Opera for a couple of years now, can't stand FF, too in your face for me. As to the original question, it's not something I've ever wanted to do so never looked till reading this post and like scook94 I can't find any such option, sorry. BTW why would you want to do that ?

This one baffled me ??? What exactly are you referring to ?
Cheers
I have no idea, Tony, unless Simon was thinking of Eudora?

Say for example I'm browsing for an item on ebay and there are a few auctions that look interesting, then in FF I'd right click and open each one in a new tab before looking at each one. In Opera I'd be taken to each new tab and have to keep going back to the first to open the next link... Not much fun if you ask me. Maybe I'm just weird in the way I use tabs? ;D
Isn't that what FF does though, Steven?
It does Rik, but you can change a setting that alters the focus (maybe it's a Tab Mix Plus add-on option?) that's what I want Opera to do also but it seems it can't be done.
I must admit that the default behaviour is what I want it to do, so I've never tried to change it...

Does it not have adverts anymore? It certainly used to back in the day.
It doesn't appear to, Seb.
I use Opera, no adverts anywhere.
I use it for secure transactions on the basis that it is used by less people and hopefully less likely to be a target of the increasing raids on security.
Not sure if I am right or wrong tho'.
When I've moved all the money from your account you'll know. :)
;D " account " read " accounts ", I have lost track of how many I have, good job I have them all listed in MS Money.
I was being delicate, In. ;)
Aww ... ta. ;)
How odd. My Opera tabs do exactly what skook wants even though I want them to do the opposite. Been trying to change it ever since Opera introduced tabs, but no luck so far.
Oh, and when I first started using Opera in about 2002, there used to be a small ad banner in the top right next to the search field. For about $5, they'd give you a password that got rid of it forever. It was just to cover their early development costs.
Hi Steven, mine shifts focus to the new tab too but I've not found anyway of changing this, even after resorting to the on line help.

Yes, that's what I was referring to. It used to have a grey panel in the top right, with ads of some sort, and if you wanted a 'clean' version, you had to pay for it (or use other means).
I can't see any adverts in my version Sebby.
It probably changed, when they realised that Firefox is better, and free, John.
So is IE (version 7 anyway)
Indeed, but Firefox is better than IE. ;D

I still use IE6, but only when I have to John, I mainly use FF, occasionally Opera, they all seem to have good and bad points.
I think it's all just subjective, I tried Firefox once but found I still preferred IE.

I know that feeling. :P
Oops, just noticed there is an "Open in background tab" when you right-click on a link. This does what I'd been looking for...
Glad you sorted it. :thumb:
