So,
Which theme is that you have? When I've looked for themes all the ones I like are not compatible with FF3. Also, how do you get a taskbar to expand and take two or three rows of icons. I tried unlocking the taskbar and dragging but that didn't work. Likewise, how to get the clock like that, mine just shows the time and I have to hover over it to get the day and date. Sorry for being such a noob

You should just be able to unlock the taskbar and drag it, Ian. When you do, the day/date will appear automatically.

Thanks Rik, I had tried unlocking the taskbar before - didn't work this time either until I dragged it from the end above the clock  :eyebrow:
Now to get the theme sorted out  ;D

What rik said :)

I should of mentioned the theme, "slap's himself"

it's called "nasa night launch"

I couldn't find any I preferred over the default theme, so I've stuck with that for when I use FF.  :)

Looking at somanyholes' screencap of his browser window got me thinking about our individual preferences: how much of our monitor's viewing space his devoted to clutter when looking at web pages, and how much to the viewed page?

My web page viewed area is 89% of my monitor, somanyholes' is 74%. Anyone else?

I use Phoenity Modern right now because Orbit isn't available for FF3.

On my Nioa theme I have 83% for page viewing, but I have given up some of the real estate for added functionality and efficiency. My Bookmarks Toolbar has large numbers of RSS feeds inside organised folders and sites that are visited many times a day are available at a single click. The bottom Status Bar provides me with rolling information too that keeps me informed about performance etc.

The amount of page data visible is much more affected by the text size etc that you are comfortable with, to reproduce your page example with the same toolbars as you, I need to reduce my text size by 20%, so with my comfort level I will invariably need to scroll, whatever toolbars I have visible.

Strangely, although I have widescreen monitors and so have spare width, I cannot stand to use sidebars instead of the toolbars at top and bottom !

There's only one theme that I like, which is Qute (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7). It's very nice and simple. :)

I hate toolbars, sidebars, or any sort of clutter on my browser window.  All I have is the main menu bar, plus the navigation / address bar, and that's it.  Can't do a screenshot now, as I'm on my phone.  :)

All i have is the standard stuff plus the google toolbar. I don't see the point of changing how the browser looks as its not the browser i'm looking at, but rather the page it is displaying!

Ah, but if the browser looks cack, then that distracts from the websites, just as a badly decorated room hides it's better features.

It's a good point about viewing area Dope, i defintalty have to do more scrolling. However i like being organised , and similar to Kinmel i can't stand the side bar, it just feels unnatural. I also can't be doing with windows being grouped which is why i have a deep taskbar. The screenie was done in the morning, before muliple windows/apps invade ;) Having bookmarks organised is also essential to me as it provides speed, which i'm very keen on. And yes i do get sick of srolling sometimes  :)

have to agree with that simon.I think certain contrasts also help with poor vision.

I have FF at about two thirds of monitor width, which is as wide as I need it for most sites. Off to the right, I can display various bits of info, URLs etc that I use regularly. I also have my taskbar on the left edge of the screen, rather than horizontal. Most things I look at are portrait, so maintaining the full 1200 vertical resolution means less scrolling. Because of my background in graphics, I keep the screen as neutral as possible, ie, grey or black, so as not to distort my colour perception.

I think that's the idea behind Google Chrome, although I really wasn't keen on it when I tried it out!

TBH, I don't think I ever see a browser as other than a frame for what I want to read.

I think I win on the percentage of real-estate for browsing :P (If I have more than one tab I lose some, obviously)

A fair few of the sites I go on take advantage of widescreen aspect ratios, so not really wasted :) That and the fact I have 2 screens anyway, so I can have something else open there :)

That's the theme.  The Core theme is widescreen compatible - you should try it, John.  ;)
