blimey my pings are quite high compared to others
Their not that bad Baz,I get three figures on an evening with bbmax
Tried mine, almost identical to results from BroadbandMax except BroadbandMax gives the ping rate about double what I get on this one,
(http://speed.io/pics/1414/3562/speed.io.png) (http://www.speed.io)
Did another test, above and got almost same result as first time except pings were higher.
Ian
Seems to keep getting stuck at 25% for me. :(
I think we must have worn it out ;D
I'm not doing too well with technical stuff at the moment. Managed to half kill my phone last night! ;D
Pity we cant use this instead of the BT official tester, which wont work for me 90% of the time, that's if I don't fall asleep waiting.

Which is all we can ask for in a speed test. None of them can be trusted to give an absolutely accurate answer, but they can be used to check trends, eg a problem will show up more readily if the tester is consistent.

But what the ****** is connects all about ?
:dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:
From the FAQ, Bob:
What is the connection test and how do you measure it?
Our connection test is measuring how many connection your local computer can establish to the internet per minute. This results are determined by requesting a very small file from our worldwide server-cluster and analyzing the number of successful connections.
This test is especially interesting, because typical websites (e.g. blogs or news pages) nowadays consist out of very many small elements (like pictures or CSS styles). In order to show those websites fast on the screen, it is not only the download speed which is important, but also the response times as well as stability of the internet connection. All these factors are taken into account with this test type.
OH!
Thanks Rick, I take it then, the higher the number the better.
I think so. :)
I was wondering the same thing myself.
:thumb:
I was just wandering. ;)
I still can't get the thing to work. How long does it take? I got stuck on 25%, and it was like that for five minutes, before I gave up. :(
Less than a minute, start to finish Simon.
Maybe a little longer on a slower line, but no more than 2 minutes.
Mine took approx 25 secs Simon
Oh well, you can't win them all.
Have you tried disabling your AV?

Whats this one like
(http://speed.io/pics/1647/0297/speed.io.png) (http://www.speed.io)
it does vary as it was 30,000 this morning I suppose it all depends on the amount of traffic the isp is handling at what time of day. This was taken at 2000 on the 30.1.09
Phil

I'm afraid Phil that is impossible. The maximum throughput on a 'up to' 8mb BT line is approx 7000-7100 depending on overheads. As for ISP contention, there isn't any at the moment with IDNet. Earlier today they had two new centrals go live which provide a significant boost to the capacity. You may, however, still experience local exchange congestion which is entirely down to underinvestment from BT.
Lance, its NTL so I presume its cable
note to self: pay more attention!
I was with NTL at one time.. we don't have cable in this area but it still seemed to work.. ;D
NTL tried to sell me 20mb boardband, I ask how, they said because their system told them I could have the service. When I asked were they going to lay the fibre cable in my road, we don't need to sir, it's there already was the reply. The housing estate I live on had a court injunction against laying cable services when it was built around 30 years ago :eek4:
I'd be tempted to sign up for the service and sue them for not then providing the service!
(http://speed.io/pics/1647/9617/speed.io.png) (http://www.speed.io)
My download speed has been reduced alot with my line problems on going :(
The only problem Ive had with ntl was trying to get them to take my old tv box back, it took about three months for them to come and pick it up. They sometimes ring me up offering to let me have the new model for free they say but it would cost me £10 to have it delivered so I stick two fingers up at them but ive had no problems with my broadband connection. I didnt think it was that fast either but ive just changed my router to a pre N from buffalo and it has made a big difference from the previous one.

Assuming you're not on a 24mb line, I'm afraid not. To quote one of my earlier posts:
Quote from: Lance on Jan 30, 2009, 22:38:32

Earlier today they had two new centrals go live which provide a significant boost to the capacity. Basically, the speedtest is telling you that your downstream throughput is 13468kb/s but the maximum possible on a 8mb BT line is less than 7150kb/s. It's likely your antivirus is upsetting the speedtest.

ok its sunday morning ,confession time, there is a fault in the speed .io program,
at the end of a test ,it gives you the option to "repeat test"
if you do this, it adds the first result ,to the second result, so you can have any reading you prefer !!!!
the above reading (which i am sure must be accurate !!) is the result of doing three consecutive tests, using the "repeat test" option
good morning vicar !!!

Never went away just been "Snooping" and not posting so much! ;)
I have been busy building machines with some new bits of my own and my Brother's cast off.
The main one I am on at the moment (new Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3 mobo with an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.67GHz 1066MHz FSB processor and 4 GB of dual channel RAM) runs Vista and it has taken some getting used to. Mainly making it runs things that I want to run rather than the ones Microsoft condescend to let me run! It has taken some intensive Gooling and the odd Registry edit but in the main on a day to day basis it now does what XP does for me straight out of the box! :)
The other machine is an all Intel affair on an older Intel D975XBX2 mobo with a Pentium D950 3.4GHz 800MHz FSB processor and another 4 GB of dual channel RAM. I am in the process of setting it up to try the Beta version of Windows 7 that I downloaded at the expense of about 3.4 GB of my bandwidth on the 24 January.
Both of these machine are all SATA affairs, my first departure from IDE PATA drives but they seem fine to me. Maybe later when I have the job done I will post more stats. and some pictures.
Sounds like you've been having fun, Les! :thumb:
You know me Les...that went way over my head....its just good to see you again :thumb:
