Unable to access any web page for the last 10/15 minbs. Tried ringing Idnet but kieep getting the engaged tone.
There's a router problem, due to be fixed tomorrow, which caused a brief outage at 16:08.

If you still can't access, try re-booting the router. If that fails, you may have a stale session so power down the router for 15 minutes then try again.
Ok thanks will try that and let you know what happens. I am using daughters internet connection at the moment.
It got me too at that time, will try the 15m idea
It's taken my connection out twice, at 16:08 for about 30 seconds then 16:32 for about 3 minutes.
gw5 has dropped 4 times this week for brief periods. Annoying but not life threatening :eyebrow:
Last drop was at 4ish but don'y know how long it was off this time.
Mine as well this time.. :(
Got me twice I've only just managed to reconnect I'm on dsl4.
problem seems to be here for me Nov 7 16:35:35 PPP CHAP Receive challenge (rhost = ESR10.Birmingham6) getting an idle timeout. :(
.net 3.30 mins ppp down as well
All should be cured tomorrow morning. :fingers:
its more than annoying when you are in the middle of a session with other people who keep seeing you disappear with no reason or notice.
The problem is that Cisco have only just released the software patch for the router. :(
use a different router ?
I'm sure there are good reasons for using the Cisco routers, but you'd have to take that up with IDNet.
using a router that appears to need a patch in order to work properly ?
It's not been an issue until the past couple of days, I don't know what's changed.
Thanks for your help Rik. Perhaps you ought to change your name to Wonder Man. ;D ;D
Sue calls me something like that, Christine. At least she was wondering if I was a man. ;)
Mine dropped at 4.21pm and didn't come back until 4.50pm. Longest one yet and I'm on gw5, as mentioned in another post. Seems to be happening bit more regularly now - thought it was just me, but apparently not. Unfortunately when it happens I have no alternative internet access so couldn't get the telephone number to call the techs - must make a note of it for future.
0800 0267237, Chris. :)
I got an outage of about 42 mins on gw2-lo1 till 16.50. I would not say that is brief. Tech support was perpetually engaged. A voice message would have been a good idea to save us having to waste time checking user equipment.
I will pass on your suggestion, Dave.
yes i was thinking the same as simply getting an engaged tone and then being disconnected was frustrating.
I've spoken to Simon about it. The problem would be that they would need to put in a lot of extra lines for what is a very unusual occurrence. Outages usually only last a few minutes.
Mine dropped twice today at least for several mins at a time, one just now :( - had to revert to a 3G mobile connection. Fingers crossed it gets sorted tomorrow.... :fingers:
Nothing is happening tomorrow now, the work was done during the outage caused by the central. Those of us who saw several short drops were seeing the router updates, those who saw a long drop were on the affected central.
Thanks Rik
:fingers:
just got home and was treated to an ear bashing from the "children" (for want of a better word). So, is that it now? Or can i expect more abuse tomorrow? ;D
It should be over, Ted, the routers were updated during the problem with the central and, unless BT trips over it again, the central should be fine now.
Fantastic! Happy kids = happy me. :thumb:
Failing which, Ted, go buy them an ice cream and send the bill to IDNet. ;)

Possibly, after all they are children. >:D
So from what i can gather everyone on GW5 has been having intermittent problems this afternoon due to some BT issue, which has now been fixed?
I got home at 4pm today and my internet was down. I rebooted which usually does the trick and still no connection so i rang IDnet, but they just told me to bear with them and try shutting everything down for 10 mins then rebooting.
Its now 9:40pm, i still have no internet connection and i cant contact IDnet again until Monday. Ive turned everything on and off a dozen times and reset my modem but nothing happens. Its driving me crazy, especially as i seem to be the only one whos connection has been down this long. Could anyone update me on why i seem to have lost connection completely and perhaps offer any tips that i could try to get my connection back. The prospect of no internet for the whole weekend isnt a particularly pleasant one so any help would be appreciated.
Im at my parents right now and will have to leave in a few minutes so i may not see this thread again until tomorrow some time.
Ok as soon as i typed the words "reset my modem" i wondered if the router settings needed checking, so i went home and made some changes. Amazingly ive managed to connect again. Happy days.
That's good then! Glad we could help!
LOL.. talking to yourself is the best way to get help. But it wasn't just gw5 it seemed to be everybody..
HHHmmmmm, I am a gw5. My router lost the internet this morning; I had not read this thread. I reset the settings from scratch......all good. Untill just now, the router has lost the internet again ???
Oh, I am online with a usb dongle before you ask. But I cannot use it for the PS3.
Well, just turned it off for 10 mins this time, and it came back online ???
My connection on gw5 has just been down for about 20 mins - was just getting to the last 15 mins on the Neil Young doc on iplayer - away back up now - it also dropped this afternoon for a bit as well - pah!
There are obviously still problems following this afternoon's work. It's been reported.

Yep mine too. Was down from about 11:40 to midnight. It dropped about the same time the night before too.
I logged gw2-lo1 down from 23.34 to 23.56 on 7/11/08. I also got I got the earlier outage 16.08 to 16.50, which was supposed to be the Cisco patch. Some explanation from IDNET would be appreciated. Pings are still poor - at best in the 40's, with excursions double or more. Speeds good.
Edit with further info.
I can't speak to anyone until Monday, Dave. (Though I note there are reports of other ISPs being affected at around the same time over on ThinkBroadband.)
My broadband connection has been down continuously from about 19:00 yesterday evening until now.
I have powered off/on the router , left the router unplugged and powered off for 30 mins then restarted....nothing works
Since everything idnet side is "fixed" what am I supposed to do now :dunno:
Apparently BT were installing more cocoa tins and the string broke.

Theres an out of hours number? I never knew that. Well just after i posted that i was back online my internet went down again around 11:40pm and has just come up again now. Incerdibly frustrating.
There's always been an out of hours number, usually you dial the normal 0800 0267237 number and pick it up from the announcement, I thought I'd save you a step, :)
