Title: Weird thing
Post by: Rik on Nov 05, 2008, 12:11:51
Sue was surfing on the other machine when a 'message' popped up from BT saying that there were too many active sessions running and she should scan for viruses. Why would BT be monitoring the connection, if indeed they were?

Needless to say, I've got an in-depth scan running.

Weird, I would say worrying if BT put a pop up on my screen.

Are you sure it wasn't just the 2700 branded software, Rik?  I've also seen that message once, when using torrents.

I've just replicated it on my machine, Simon, and it was, indeed, the router giving a warning on a badly constructed page.

Phew! :)

Isn'y this an instance of your router 'calling home to BT'.  If so you should be able to prevent it I think.

I don't think it has anything to do with BT as such, Rick, but just the router software being branded with BT logos.  :)

I agree, Simon, it looks like a BT web page until you check the URL, which Sue didn't.

Change option 1 in Attack Detection at Firewall, Advanced (http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=E13&THISPAGE=A02_POST&NEXTPAGE=E13) in the router to turn this feature off

I had this a few times, Rik. Take a look here (http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=5386.0) if you're interested. :)
