Title: Firefox gets location aware!

"Mozilla, the company behind the Firefox browser, has released technology that helps websites detect the physical location of computers"

This will be released in firefox 3.1 but is available for download now to play with it and give feedback, story here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7659497.stm

Interesting one this. I can see the pro's and con's to it. As long as users have contol over it I don't think that It causes to many issues. Firefox can already map you to an area, i.e city anyway. If your really paranoid, as I know some are ;) , just disable your wireless nic when not using it, which is a good thing to do generally anyway. I think that the iphones pose a much bigger risk to freedom than this stuff tbh.

On o2 So, you can dial 1300 and control the privacy setting of your phone, from anyone finding you down to no one except the emergency services, I know Vodafone offer a similar service, Orange do not and you can be found by anyone all the time, not sure about T-Mobile

I don't like the idea of sites knowing where I am, there was a survey recently using the mobile location finder to check which shoppers went into what supermarkets, I have my privacy set to only emergency services only >:(
