Which Monitor, David, is it your Samsung? if it is there is a button situated on the bottom right hand edge of monitor that you can press to cycle between digital or analogue output.

You probably have to do what you don't want to do i.e turn the acer off and then on again.not sure about through monitor settings perhaps someone else will know. :)

David, did you change the monitor cable as well when you connected to your Acer? or are you using one that was already attached to the Acer and if so is this cable a digital one or an analogue one?

Perhaps there is no video output from the acer pc?

It is possible you have dislodged the video card in the Acer when moving the cable.

Disconnect the power from the machine and then remove and re-fit the video card.

If I recall its an Acer L320 with an integrated video card.It may have vga out though so analogue may be well worth a try.

And that, David, could have been the problem all along!  ;)

It has to be something like this as a sharp tap it all comes back with no loss? I think in this instance it may be worth taking a look inside the case and check for loose connections, now I know there is no seal, there should not be any issues....

PC world are damned slow if I hear nothing tomorrow I will go over to the branch with  my receipt and see what they can do

It's possible to damage a monitor by connecting it while a machine is powered up, David, but it's fairly rare.

I will double double check the connections and see what happens.I was going to buy a Gender Changer to see if this helps....

It certainly sounds like the graphics card may be loose.
