Title: Trouble migrating my parents

Username : usernasme@idnet.gw5 (username must be entered in lowercase)

Password : ********

USB ADSL (Copperjet) modem

Equipment Previously connected successfully to F2S


Hello I am trying to get my parents connected (I am already on idnet, but with a router so I can't help them much). Idnet migrated them 10 days early so we were caught napping!

I am trying to help them over the phone!!

I have followed the connection info from idnet telephone support line. 

i.e.

Network connections

New connection wizard

Dial up modem

Number to dial 0,38 etc.

They get a modeem dialing error!

We have made several setup attempts.

Any suggestions?

Have you tested the login by going to the accounts page? Is the modem syncing?

Hi Chris, I don't mean to sound patronising, but are you actually putting in "username@idnet.gw5" or have you replaced "username" with your actual username/telephone number (can't remember what IDNet's system is these days)?

Hi,

They are putting in their real username (telephone number) i.e. 01234567890@idnet.gw5
& their password, 8 digits, in the correct case
they are entering 0,38 as the dial-up number as specified by the idnet chap.

The modem is detecting ADSL on a reboot. i.e. the ADSL light flashes 7 then turns solid green.

When they finish the "new connection wizard" on the network connections page it says "dialing idnet" 7 then reports a dialing error (64 I think)

I have deleted the old ISP settings & selected idnet as default.

I can't think of anything else to try. I have always used a router, so I am flailing around a bit!!

Hi Chris,

There is some server maintenance going on this morning.  Not sure if it would affect anything, but it might.  Not wanting to sound like a brush off, but I wonder if it just might be worth holding off till later, and trying again?

Sadly, Chris, I don't know the modem, so I'm at a loss to know what to suggest. Can you log in to their account page? If you can, that would confirm you've got the password right. If so, then I'm afraid I think you need support. (I take it you're not in a position to pop round with your router?)

I don't know too much about USB modems but don't they usually have their own configuration program? And shouldn't that be where the changes are made?
Sounds like you're doing it in windows but its the modem that needs to know the login info, i would have thought.

Ah Ted, that's what I was going to say.. when I had a modem, not the same one though, I couldn't make a connection independently for ADSL either.  I had to use the CD that came with it.  I did manage to extract some of the files from it and use them so that I avoided all the branding that came with it, it was an ISPs modem, but your parents may just have to go with whatever is on the CD.

It sounds like they're doing everything right, Chris, and if the same configuration has worked in the past, I can't see an obvious reason for this. It might be worth giving IDNet a ring.

What happens if they put their F2S details into the modem, does it connect?

Chris here is a ftp://ftp.allieddata.nl/public/Product_Info/adsl/CopperJet_801/Manuals/Installation_Manual_Tornado_801.pdf to the PDF manual for that modem. It shows how to use the installed utility to configure it.

Might be useful.

Edit: that's better, wouldn't seem to work with the hyperlink thing ???

That'll be because the hyperlink thingy is for http://, not ftp://  :)
